I know very little about F1, but if this guy is all he's cracked up to be, you would think Ferrari would offer him the moon.

    Any thoughts?

I would love to see that happen, but McLaren will do what they have to to keep him. Plus it was his childhood dream to drive for McLaren.

Never if he's smart...Ferrari lacks the team management/leader to build a great car right now...Ron Dennis is a great team leader that is capable of leading a WDC and WCC team for at least another decade....

Never happen, he owes everything to Ron Dennis. Ferrari has a better shot at Alonso.

I would LOVE to see Lewis at the Scuderia, but I don't see Ron Dennis allowing anything of that sort happening until Lewis grows white hair.

Ron Dennis will not let him go. Its not like he is a driver at a back marker team. He is already with the top 2 or 3. (best right now). Alonso left Renault because htey weren't even sure they would be in F1. McLaren, BMW and Ferrari don't typically lose drivers if they don't want too. The way this is going McLaren will pay all they money.

Here are some news about the LH-Ferrari rumor.

    Posted 30 May 2007 at 08:46 GMT

Just five races into his young career, British rookie Lewis Hamilton is already being linked with a shock switch to Ferrari.

The 22-year-old, after making the most successful start to a debut season in the history of Formula One, is now at the centre of the Monaco 'team order' storm.

Hamilton has even been mentioned as the instigator of the pending FIA investigation, after suggesting to reporters last Sunday that he had been ordered to finish second to Fernando Alonso because he is "the number two driver" at McLaren.

But even though team boss Ron Dennis groomed Hamilton through racing's junior classes at huge expense, not to mention the existence of a long term contract (to about 2011), British newspaper The Times said there is now "a raft of speculation" hinting at a future link between Lewis and F1's famous Italian team.

"Paddock wags (are) suggesting that his route to Ferrari is already being 'lawyered', on the assumption that Kimi Räikkönen is shown the door," motor racing correspondent Edward Gorman wrote.

Gorman added that Hamilton's annual salary could potentially rise from about $500,000 in 2007 to up to $40m "or more" with Ferrari.

The rumour is backed by another British newspaper - the Daily Mail - and its claim that Hamilton was unashamedly "angry" in Monaco when it became clear that he was being asked to sacrifice his lead of the drivers' championship and settle for second.

    There is hope.

Alternatively I'm quite happy if we get Alonso instead.

I think Alonso or even MS back at Ferrari is a more likely scenario than Lewis. Best choice would be Nico Rosberg, who I still think is underrated.

There is no way Dennis would allow Hamilton to get away from McLaren, certainly not over salary.

Wishful thinking by the British press. Hamilton knows his role and should be grateful to Ron Dennis for the opportunity. If he were to jump ship, I would not want to be the team that he jumps to, he will likely leave as soon as he gets upset. Prima-donna in the making if the stories from Monaco are true. He is either a master at interviewing, or actually a nice kid. I pick the latter.

Hamilton will be at McLaren for another 5 years, Todt will not allow Alonso to drive for Ferrari, Kimi will be around through 2008, minimum.

99% unlikely for Alonso or Schumacher, 50/50 for Rosberg. And I agree with you, he is very underrated.

I'm thinking the 12th of NEVER, or thereabouts. McLaren won't let him go until someone equal or better becomes available.

And why would Todt not allow Alonso to drive for Ferrari? He must not want to win.

The days of the broken contracts are about over.
If Ferrari wants LH on their team before his contract is up, it would be cheaper to buy the team.

I've seen a couple people post this, but it doens't make any sense to me. As is stands currently, he's the best option on the field. Hamilton may have more potential, but Alonso is much more experienced and that would come in handy for developing the car, a problem which Ferrari seems to have now.
