As per my other thread ( http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130127 ) I'm looking to get my wife a 355 GTS for a landmark birthday next August. Of course I get to use it too. ;)

I'm pretty sure I've settled on a 355 GTS (though the 348 TS still catches my eye...). Black, yellow or white.. in that order.

I want it to be a surprise on delivery next August -- so realistically when should I really start searching? I don't want to buy it now ... I want to get it in late summer. I don't want to waste seller's time by looking too early. Of course if I find something too early I suppose I could find somewhere to store it -- but that would be an added cost.

So, when should I start "really" looking?

Well if anyone sees a nice 355 GTS 6-speed available in black, yellow or white, please let me know! Tubi and Challenge grill are a bonus. Thanks :)

Suggestion: If you really want it to be a surprise - give it to her *whenever* - not in August, when she may (apparently, due to stated target Month) be expecting something, surprise or not.

Well it does appear that due to the rarity of the 6sp GTS, I may have to act quickly if I find something that fits the bill!

I've seen a few LHD GTS's advertised on a few UK sites (Pistonheads.com). I just checked on Hemmings and there is one listed in Germany, but I was curious if anyone has any experience shipping cars from Europe as an alternative to finding a GTS here in the States. Is this something to be avoided?

The 355 GTS is the last of the targa topped cars and is the way to go. Look how strong the pricing still is. I will also be looking for one in blue, so if anybody finds one, let me know.

What am I missing here? Right now there are so many 355s for sale, they are surpassed only by 360s. Everyone that has one for sale has been complaining that they can't sell it. I mean, it's either a buyer's market or a seller's market, which is it? Or is it that the guys selling them want too much for them and the guys buying think they are overpriced? This is a serious question, as I have seen a lot of ads, people holding out for unrealistic money for 348s and 355s (and 360s, but I'm not looking for one of those) and they are not selling. At some point these things are going to start reflecting a more realistic market price. Is the issue in finding a "good one" related to the service (valve guides, headers) having been taking care of, or just finding one that is in decent shape for under $90K?

It's just the GTS's that are hard to find. With GTB's & Spiders it's a buyer's market for sure.

Definitely a Buyers Market. The Glut of 360s is depressing the 348/355 Market. Our BENTLEY Dealer has 4 360s for sale.Amazing, they are everywhere !
