According to QV500.com some 958 GTE's were manufactured including 3 prototypes and excluding 300 America's.

I want to know how many of those remain in their original confirguration given that so many GTE's were used as Donor cars for TR and SWB's repro's ?

If you know the Chassis numbers of a car that was originally a GTE but is sadly no longer please repsond.

    Thanks.

    That should read "330 Americas".

These answers are of January 1, 2004:

My register shows 956 GTEs built plus 50 330 Americas. The current owner is known for 197 cars, the last known owner for 253 more, and the last known address or activity (seen somewhere, but owner's name not known) 311. 38 are known to have been parted out. 207 are "no current information available" or we could say "missing in action." That should total to 1,006 cars.

Of these, 134 GTEs and 2 330 Americas have been transformed, for a total of 136 cars. I would speculate that between 418 and 626 cars exist with their original bodies. I have photos of more than 219 of these cars, and could, with effort, look at them all to see which ones are still with their original body.

I publish the "250 GTE Register & Newsletter. You can contact me at either e-mail: [email protected] or by phone at 928-771-8256.

In direct reply to your question, I know the serial numbers of the 136 cars that were transformed and what they were transformed into and, generally, who was responsible for the transformation.

That's a lot better than some cars. I am involved with a number of Alfa Romeo model registers, and for the Alfa 2600 (an Alfa from the same period, which was made in convt, coupe and sedan form) only about 15% of the cars built are known to still exist.

    Alfa from the 1960s.... spelled R-U-S-T !

Those cars had steel sourced from the USSR. It had a very high carbon content, and it rusted like crazy. If you specifically formulated your steel with the aim of maximizing its rust potential.... you would get the stuff Alfa used in the '60s. With no rust proofing done from the factory, cars like the 2600 or GTV from that era could have rust bubbling before they left the dealer lot! Its somewhat amazing that 15% of them are still on the road.

My count is 953 GT/E + 50 330 America. By Pininfarina job numbers:
    Prototype: 15836 = 1
    Series 1: 39701..40000 + 34002..34003 = 302
    Series 2-3: 68001-68650 = 650 cars
    330 America: 68651-68700 = 50 cars

    Best wishes, Kare

That's interesting. I had a 1961 Giulietta Sprint coupe in 1973, and it was rusted, but not badly, along the bottom body panels. No wonder these are so expensive now. I always wanted another one until I saw the recent prices.
