This is a question I have been looking for the answer since years. Does some could know the answer ?

To my knowledge there is 2288 GTB/GTS produced with US specs. US mean USA and Canada. Did some of these cars were sold/delivered new in others country ? I don't find any but can't says that for sure.

Concerning GTB I think knowing the truth. 135 US specs 328GTB were built and 130 were delivered in US. The remaining 5 cars could delivered in Canada ?

Concerning GTS, I have 2153 cars built. I still looking information on many of them and I still can't even make prediction today.

The answer would be findable in the FNA archives but is there anyone to consult them ?

I have the information but I am not going through 7400 VINs and count the US cars.

I also have another data base of 23000 US VINs from the beginning of the 17 digit VIN to 2006 but same thing. Counting line by line for a specific model is just too much time.

Besides, someone always wants to argue about some minutia and life is too short. Everyone wants to argue based on what some car salesman told them or what they read. No one wants to do the work and collect the data.

If only someone would invent something that could do it for you. A bit like a computer. Quite a lot like a computer, in fact.

If you'd share all that data with me, I'd do it. I've already done that for the 208/308 GT4, might as well tackle another model!

    Brian,

I have 7412 VINs of 328 and know I am not the only one. But for many I don't know so much more and still to do research and spenp time to do..
My goal is to find reliable information and don't care how many time it takes to treat them

I suspect our source is the same. I constantly try to update, correct what I have and fill in details.

If its so easy to find the numbers can you tell us with your computer not the production numbers we all know them just the numbers imported to the US.

I thought it would be obvious that it is easy for a computer to tell you the answer only if it has the data in the first place. I didn't say I had the data. Brian said he did.

This seems like the perfect use case for ChatGPT if we had access to the data (here's public data):

"Ferrari produced a total of 7,412 Ferrari 328 GTS and 1,344 Ferrari 328 GTB units between 1985 and 1989. Of these, approximately 6,068 GTS models and 1,087 GTB models were officially imported into the United States."

    Ferrari 328 GTB (Coupe)
    • 1986: ~373 units
    • 1987: ~270 units
    • 1988: ~250 units
    • 1989: ~194 units
    • Total U.S. GTB production: 1,087 units
    Ferrari 328 GTS (Targa)
    • 1986: ~1,487 units
    • 1987: ~1,274 units
    • 1988: ~1,548 units
    • 1989: ~1,759 units
    • Total U.S. GTS production: 6,068 units
Grand Total for the U.S.: 7,155 units
    (328 GTB + 328 GTS)

"the most current version of ChatGPT available in March 2025"

I wasn't trying to imply is was correct (we all know how inaccurate they can be). I ran it just for fun.

We the USA in that period bought about 30-35% of Ferrari production.
To suggest USA bought 80 or so percent is just laughable and should be ignored.

    Whatever ChatGTP is.
