    Great!

I vehemently recommend you do the trek to the gas station that sells the 100 octane!!
Is it a 76 station? If so they are the best as they carry either Sunoco or VP.

The problem might be that after you try 100 octane you most likely will not
want to put anything else in the car!!

It also would be awesome if you posted a vid of your Italia with a full tank of
    100 Aki!!!!

I can't stand the crummy Cali 91 Aki gas: worst throttle response, less power and
less pops: it has been 100% 100 or 101 Aki for me for years, and she loves the
    expensive stuff ;)

Thanks Mike! It is a pleasure working with you :) I'm looking forward to emailing you more tunes to try.

Guys- Mike basically handed over his keys to me (someone who he has never met before) and told me to drive it however I need to drive it in order to capture on video everything I need to prove my work to you guys. I'm proud to say that his car cracked the 30k mile mark while I was driving it! So he also deserves some major props to making this thing happen. I was pretty confident that the results on my 2010 would be replicated in a newer car. But it was great to be able to verify it!

We have a couple of local stations that sell 100+ octane gas, but as you may have noticed, I drive my car all the time and often find myself in places where there aren't stations with such high octane gas, or where i wouldn't have a clue how to find such a station.
I've also heard it isn't good to switch back and forth from the 91 octane, which as you mention is the Cali standard, and ~100+ octane. Not sure if that is true.
    Probably worth a little research.

the 458 is a special car and what made it even more special then any other Ferrari is
that Michael Schumacher helped design it !! I thought I was watching Schumacher yesterday when I saw your video haha !

It wasn't my first choice, I worked in banking software for like 15 years before I started with games.

Working out well so far though, I owe my 458 to it!

    Point well taken, Carlo!

I've read somewhere that the reason why Ferrari issued the software update on 458s' ECUs was precisely because the burbles/unburnt fuel put stress on components on the long run. As a preemptive measure to avoid possible damage, they decided to go conservative. Personally, I prefer to have the burbles even if it means to replace a part or two on the long run.

No sir, credit to where credit is due: you were the one that decided to start this thread. We did indeed start to talk about the 458's exhaust system and burbles on another thread as you may recall (we were always talking about the 458's exhaust everywhere! hahaha), but you were the one that put the subject all in one place. So thank you also once again, Carlo.

At best, I may assume paternity of the thread alongside you, but you are the 458 legend, not me!

    Kindest regards,

    Nuno.

Thank you for that information, Shiv.

Indeed. Not only congrats to Shiv are in order, but also Kudos to Mike!

Shiv, now that you proved to the world that your ECU tuning works, any ideas on pricing?

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

    Hi Nuno,
We are in the process of creating a product page (on our website) for the Ferrari 458 OpenFlash Tablet. It will have all the relevant info you'd need. We are going to have an introductory price of $1500+shipping. We will also be offering additional support options that basically allow us to customize your ECU calibration exactly to your liking (throttle sensitivity, cold start, catalyst monitoring, idle speed, burbles, valve control, power output, valet modes, etc,.) I have A LOT to write up! :)

Sounds great, Shiv. I bet you have your hands full. Well done, I can't think of anywhere else where a customer could customize so many parameters. Great service.

    Looking forward to learn more!

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Thanks! I think it's common for ECU development to become stagnant in high end markets where there a) isn't a lot of competition and b) where IP protection is prioritized. I suspect this is why this market hasn't seen many at-home ECU flashing options because they are, by their very nature, unsecured. Anyone wishing to steal a calibration can sniff the communication through the diagnostic port and easily reverse engineer the tune. This is why most companies only offer ECU flashing services where you have to mail your ECUs to them for bench flashing. My company doesn't monetize IP. Instead we sell (and monetize) ECU flashing hardware and tuning services. We don't even bother encrypting our tune files when we email them to customers. Since we have no security concerns to deal with, we can offer services/products that aren't considered feasible by other companies.

The other advantage we have is that we are primarily an ECU tuning company. And we have operated as such since we opened our doors back in 1999. Other companies I've seen tend to focus on hardware and then offer some type of ECU product out of sheer necessity.

But I guess the biggest advantage we have is that I'm doing this largely for fun for no other reason that I'm a 458 owner myself. Everything I develop for customers can be enjoyed by yours truly... and visa versa. It's really a very selfish endeavor :)

Shiv, I have a question for you...

One of the problems people have when they add 200 cell cats to their Italia is that they get a CEL (Check Engine Light).

When you do your reprogramming of the ECU, is there any change you can make to the code that will prevent the CEL after the addition of 200 cell cats?

    Thanks!

Yes of course. I disable catalyst monitoring on cars with cat deletes or race cats that would otherwise trigger a CEL. With monitoring disabled, that fault code will not trigger.

Isn't this typical of ECU flash tunes? I assumed they all did this since race cats and cat deletes are so popular for the 458. I can't imagine any Ferrari owners being ok with a check engine light. I've been running cat deletes in my car for a few weeks now. But will be installing race cats soon. Flames are cool, but so is the environment. :)
