It seems to me that some reds look different in pictures, and different names are used for their reds, but I can't keep it straight if there are several names for the same color, or if there were more than one or two reds offered by them since 1980.

Who wants to start? What's the color's name, and can you describe it please.

    Thanks!
    Wes

I don't think it's offered any more, but Rosso Cino (Chinese Red) was a beautiful, rich dark red. The fellow who invented the Escort radar detector had a plexi-nosed Daytona in this shade - awesome!

My 1976 GTB is Rosso Chiaro. Rosso Corsa at first glance until sunset when it takes on some interesting hues.

there is rosso fiorano which is a dark almost wine colored red. very beautiful on the more classy ferraris such as the 550 and the 575.
rosso dino is a very orange looking "red" and in some lights could actully be seen as just plain orange.
rosso scuderia is the red that ferrari puts on their F1 cars. it is pretty much rosso corsa but a little more orange in a good light.
    well theres my input.

Not to be pedantic, but the answer is almost impossible to give, unless you have access to ALL the factory records, without those you won't be able to include the special order cars, where customers have taken up the option to have their car painted to match a sample that they, the customer provides. This option is still current,at a stupid price of £3585 (US$6300) for 430, but I have no idea how many people take it up.:)

Also, the shade of Rosso Corsa changed over the years. It has taken on a brighter, more orange color in later years compared to earlier cars.

There are obviously a few not on that list, such as Rosso Cordoba. A very deep brownish red, popular in the 60's & 70's.

There were only 5 or 6 308s made in that color.

Sure, Wes. There's also Rosso Metallico, less bright than Rosso Corsa with metallic flake.

Only if you consider 'classic' as the 1970's forward. The original racing colors were a much darker red, similar to Rosso Barchetta. Scuderia Ferrari began racing Alfas in that color and used it on the first models manufactured under Ferraris name. It then began to get lighter. Today's red on the Forumula 1 cars are very bright and were designed for better TV coverage.

Naturally there are models you can point to as exceptions, but this has been the general pattern for the evolution of red and Ferrari.

That color, at least the late-40s version, IS Rosso Barchetta, since it got its name from the car that won Le Mans in 1949, which was painted that color.

I have trouble distinguishing between Rubino, Fiorano and Barchetta, though I think Rubino has a little more purple and is like the color of red wine.

I agree as I think you have to gather all the red colour code. Different models have different codes I think.

The following red colors are listed for the Daytona in Keith Bluemel's book: "Original Ferrari V-12, 1965 - 1973":

    Rosso Chiaro 20-R-190
    Rosso Cina "Duce" 812.69484
    Rosso Cordoba Met. 106-R-7
    Rosso Dino 20-R-351
    Rosso Ferrari 20-R-187
    Rosso Nearco 2.664.032
    Rosso Sir Ivor 95.3.9301
    Rosso Rubino 106-R-83

The number of color alternatives has been reduced in recent years, as evidenced in his book "Original Ferrari V-8":

    1975-79 Model Years:

    Rosso Chiaro 20.3.90
    Rosso Dino 20.3.350
    Rosso Rubino

    1980-83 Model Years:

    Rosso Corsa FER 300
    Rosso Dino FER 301
    Rosso Metallizato 302/C

    1984-89 Model Years:

    Rosso Corsa FER 300/6
    Rosso Metallizato 305/C

It should be noted that Rosso Corsa (which has a deeper rose red) only started in the 1980s. The traditional Ferrari red in the late 1960s and 1970s was Rosso Chiaro, which has more orange in it than Rosso Corsa. My 365 Boxer is painted Rosso Chiaro and, while it looks very red standing by itself, it does look somewhat orange-ish when parked next to a 1980s Ferrari in Rosso Corsa.

Ferrari have used a number of different paint suppliers over the years, and something like Rosso Corsa has a variety of different shades.

Here are all the different reds I have listed (names only). I haven't distinguished between, for example, Rosso Corsa 300/9 and Rosso Corsa 300/12.

    Amaranto
    Amaranto Roma
    Amaranto Savid
    Bordeaux
    Rosso
    Rosso Barchetta
    Rosso Cherry
    Rosso Chiaro
    Rosso Cina
    Rosso Cordoba
    Rosso Corsa
    Rosso Dino
    Rosso Ferrari
    Rosso Fiorano
    Rosso Maya
    Rosso Mercedes
    Rosso Met. (i.e. metallic red)
    Rosso Monza
    Rosso Nearco
    Rosso Rubino
    Rosso Rubino Chiaro
    Rosso Scuderia
    Rosso Scuro
    Rosso Sir Ivor
    Rosso Speciale
    Rosso Toreador
    Rosso Vivo
    Rubino Micalizzato

As SpiderManUK rightly states you can have your new Ferrari in any colour you like, although I think very few people do.

Old thread, I know. We have a 70s 400i in the shop in this delicious shade. Rosso Nearco? But I would take a 400i in any colour.
