I actually searched for "Ireland" and this thread came up. I am 21 and I have lived in Ireland all my life. I am from the Donegal which is in the North West but I have lived in Dublin for the last three years.
To answer your question, I love Ireland and find its a great place to live. Its not cheap, infact its very expensive. The housing market as reached its peak now and is starting to cool back down but in no way has the bubble burst. Check out www.daft.ie for house prices.
If you are planning to move to Ireland for the country life I would advise moving to somewhere outside but within reach of Dublin as it has everything you need, but you can be far enough away to forget about the city.
The road network in Ireland is improving but its not great. The best way i can explain is to compare prices for you.....

Pint of beer - 4 to 5 euros
Litre of Petrol - 1.20 euro atm
    Ferrari 430 - 286,000euro list price
    20 Smokes - 7.40euro
Hope that helps, anything else I can help you with let me know !

Yes, lovely country and nice people (Celts of course ;)), but it's in the Altantic rather than the North Sea.

I'm Irish and lived in Dublin up until I was 19. I still live there for about 6-8 months of the year, every year. The rest of the time I'm in the U.S. and London. In the last 10-15 years Irelands economy has grown tremendously. I know that when a lot of people think of Ireland they just think of green fields, hills and countryside but Dublin is far from that.

The property market has been the biggest factor in Irelands economic growth. The price of houses was constantly rising for the last decade. It has slowed down but the price for housing remains very high.

When you buy a car in Ireland you have to pay VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) which varies depending on the emissions each car produces. Cars with higher emissions have a higher VRT, higher price; cars with lower emissions have a lower VRT, lower price. Cars like the Toyota Prius do not require VRT to be paid. This is the governments way to encourage more people to buy environmentally friendly cars. In Dublin, Porsche's and Bentley's are pretty common. Ferrari's are becoming more common due to the economic growth, but they're still rare, like in most parts of the world. Though I work in Dublin's city centre and I see Ferrari's nearly every day :)

A night out can be expensive. A pint of Budweiser is around 4-5.50 Euro, a bottle of Budweiser would cost the same.

Wages are among the highest in Europe I believe - the minimum wage is 8.65 Euro per hour. The average wage for an average job is 12-15 Euro per hour.

It is an expensive place to live and the weather is usually not great, but it is a great place to live, for many different reasons. I would never leave here :)

Guinness is Good for You. Budweiser is Bad for You. [repeat]

That's high for swill. Is it a reaction to Coors taking over Bass?

    How much is a proper beer;
    Bass [ale, not fish!]
    Harp [lager, not... ]
    Guinness
Half 'n' Half or Black and Tan
