I love this thread cause it's a good reference for the Dinos still out there, color etc... Besides the ones that have rusted away or have been totaled! It's a good reference to try to figure out how many real cars are still are still on the road. Which are not many..
Dear GT4 Friends, I am not sure how many of you subscribe to Cavallino Magazine. But this new April/May 2017 issue #218 has a cover from the 2017 recent Cavallino Classic which they produce. As many of you know one of our fellow 308 GT4 supporters extraordinaire Al Ierardi who has not only has restored many award winning GT4's, he also found the original 1973 Paris Show Car #07202, which he painstakingly researched and restored. This car is the "prototype" Dino 308 GT4, seen in all the original Ferrari brochures and Bertone promo shots, and is not only a very rare car but also very significant in Ferrari's history, being the first prototype, of the very first production Ferrari V8. I have been a GT4 supporter for many years owning a 75 US car #10766, which has been featured in Forza magazine, and a 1974 #09212, which Al restored for me. I contacted the publisher of Cavallino several years ago urging him to do an article on this Paris show car since it has been a long time since a GT4 graced the cover in issue #5. He seemed open to this and over the last 2 years Al has taken a number of GT4's to The Cavallino Classic winning multiple platinum awards including the outstanding V8 and platinum for the Paris car this year. You can imagine my frustration and confusion when I got the new Cavallino and had not the Paris Show Car but a very nice 246 Dino on the cover. There is nothing wrong with this beautiful 246, but it is almost the same color as the Paris show car, and can not help feel that this is a snub on the entire GT4 community. Al has done much and continues to for this model and this very special show car deserves respect, and to be on the cover. Make no mistake this is about the Dino 308 GT4, its history, significance and beauty. This model has been treated badly for several decades and time to get the story right!!! I have been fighting for it's honor for a long time, but now I need all of your help. In every issue of Cavallino the "Guida" lists the 308 GT4 value range from 30,000 to 35,000. This would be laughable if it were even remorely true, several of Als cars sold for over six figures last year, and the current price in Europe for a GT4 is about 80,000 Euros. Now you might say that those were exceptional cars, however the "Guida" list the 246 Dino at a range from $300,000 to $800,000! The high end of this range was an unusual auction price. In my mind this is just more of some the elite of the Ferrari community trying to personally downgrade the 308 GT4 model, which I think everyone here in this thread has a different opinion. I am not sure why this is but have witnessed it for mnay years now to my dismay and shock! My reason for posting this is; I was hoping that each of you as a member of the Ferrari community at large, and the owners of 308 GT4's will help me out with a campaign to right what I perceive as unfair injustices and factual inconsistencies against our beloved model. I am urging each of you to write Cavallino, and respectfully request they do an article on 1973 Paris show car, and double check their numbers in the "Guida" for the GT4. Totally 100% behind you on this. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but this one stinks, although it must be one of the last hold-outs of racer-ism in the Fcar community. Certainly in the UK and elsewhere the GT4 has enjoyed a bit more of the limelight in recent years. Letter in editing now. Cheers Mark

Totally with you on this Rob and will write. A couple of points, this from UK. On Friday I took my GT4 to an annual Piazza Italia Ferrari meet in the Sussex town of Horsham here in UK. 100 Ferraris. My blue GT4 as always attracted great interest, because it was blue but also because it was a bit different to the others. I lost count of the number of people who told me what a beautiful design it is. They also particularly loved the dashboard. Some knew about Dinos but most just accepted it is a Ferrari without knowing the history, although I did explain. Interestingly women particularly loved it. In fact two women told me it was the nicest car there! Values. Last Tuesday my local Thames Valley Ferrari Owners Club visited GTO Engineering (sponsors on here) who are just a mile from where I live. I was talking to one of the engineers who recreates Michelotto Group B 308s. Last time I talked with him a year ago he told me he had bought a GT4 for parts but had decided to sell it without breaking. I saw it on Facebook some months ago and asked him if he had sold it. He said yes. He told me the car was a mess but he still got 50K UK pounds for it. That's $62K. My car which is probably class 2 is currently insured for 60K pounds. When I've cleaned up the engine compartment and suspension (next winter) I would think it will be 75-80K pounds. Having said that, I'm not bothered about how much it is worth. That will be for whoever follows me. I will keep my car as long as I can drive it.

Friends, Certainly this is not about the money and I will probably never sell my Ferrari's unless forced to, but the fact that they are using the extreme high end for the 246 at an auction, would seem that they would recognize the actual values, such as the UK beater above for $62K......or the high end such as the cars Al is selling.... Realisticly I think the value should be closer to $35K to $175K, which would take into consideration a poor car to one that is on the extreme high end...... I would guess a really beat up 246 would sell for $300K??? Sincerely, Rob
