I mean what is mousehair really? It can't really be fur from actual mice or I'll never be able to look a mouse in the eyes again.

Don´t be worry for the mice ;-)
In Germany we name it a kind of "Alcantara", which is synthetic suede leather.

Mousehair is the textured 'Dino' vinyl that has be flocked with a furry substance to knock down the vibration. The only mice in your Dino will not be on the dash but likely eating the wiring harness or living in your airbox or exhaust.

    If you have good mousehair:

    1. Don't touch it.

    2. Don't let anyone else touch it.

    3. Don't vacuum it.

    4. Only raise dust with a lint roller or masking tape applied very gently.

    5. Expose it to the sun only when you are driving.

Can't believe that this stuff is so costly! I've seen as high as $335 per meter! Cheapest I've found was about $130.

but that's the first thing anyone wants to do! I'm guilty as well. Maybe owners should keep a 'sacrificial scrap' in the glovebox for neophytes...

    100% Gospel.....

According to Dennis McCann, they simply flocked Dino vinyl back in the day to get it to look right....

Those days are gone, the current stuff doesn't look "Charcoally" enough, but look blue/purple.....

maybe some one knows of a "Flocker"...?

Flocking services are well known among those who prepare rally cars for competition. The factory dash is often flocked to cut down on glare. Tracking down a local rally specialist will more than likely yield the location of a local flocker. That said there is a standard way of doing it where you spray the surface down with glue and apply the flock manually or an electrostatic application that results in a perfect finish. I will be investigating the latter during my restoration.

Could this lead to a theatrical release called "Meet the Flockers"? Inquiring minds want to know! Fred
