Hey All, I'm a newbie here and I've been reading and learning for the past week about these wonderful machines and finally wanted to ask some questions. actually it was Pengsters355 thread with the "I just broke 70k mark" that got me wondering if it is common to see cars with over 50k miles.. I just bought a '96 355 GTB with 52xxx miles on it and got me thinking that if this was any other car- it would just be getting broken in..yet it is always referred to as having high miles (which is why I bought it at a price that I would be a fool to pass up) I've had it inspected and everything checks out ok. but should I be scared because of the stigma surrounding the "high miles". Any advice about what to worry about- the timing belt and 60k service has already been performed but I see someone mentioned in another thread that there are sensors that go bad, etc -any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance ~T
You already got a great deal buying the car so don't expect to get top dollar for the car when you decide to sell it. So go out and drive the car and just take care of anything that breaks. Chances are that the car will be fine since the major services have already been done. DRIVE, DRIVE, DRIVE........
You are lucky, you already bought a depreciated car...what's a few more miles over 50k? I'm at 40k, drive away and enjoy it!
...and drive her I will.. just as soon as the dang sun comes out.. damn Pacific Northwest! I am not worried about what I am going to sell it for at all.. aside from the resale value- what should I be mindful of? and aside from oil changes-what service is next? 75k? (I dont have the owners manual) thanks for the warm welcome guys- ~T
Hi Tim. Welcome to Ferrarichat mate. Congrats on the new toy, these things are awesome arent they! As for the miles on your car, my bet is you have managed to find yourself a very reliable 355, the more these things are used the better they become, provided they are well serviced, and it sounds like yours is well serviced. As "the Pap" said, less stress brother, more driving. Mine is used at every opportunity, it is well cared for and as yet has been as reliable as a Honda, I have an annual service coming up in the next few months and I think I will hit the miles before the 1 year is out. Enjoy your car in good health buddy.
Just normal maintenance every year or if you drive it then every 5000miles or so, and if it breaks then fix it, these things really are just a awesome CAR I would like to suggest you find a owners manual on eBay just to complete your car and some light reading, it's a good way to get to know your car, although it does state the obvious quite often
There are always those who border on 'packrats', count every single bean as if it were the last and wear the same underwear for a week, with a drawer full of packaged new ones..... Money is for spending and f-cars are for driving/enjoying ! Take a deep breath, count your blessings, maintain the 355 and don't let the 'killjoys' tell you how to live !!! We don't know how long we will be here and life goes by quick. Every day that passes is one day less that we will exist on this awesome planet. So smell the roses, complement the women, spend time with family/friends and do the things that will make you happy .
Speak for the mortals----Us immortals will be here for many centuries to come!!!! I am 367 years old by last count!!!
I was thinking the same thing--Wonder if it is that car--I saw it in person in Richmond last September...
It is just getting broken in. Go enjoy the car.It was built to drive, not stare at in the garage and wonder what it is like to drive. Congrats!
yes that's the one- It's currently on its way home from New Jersey.. I only have the pictures of her at the dealership..I cant wait to sit behind the wheel and see her in person. My brother in NY (308 GTS owner) made the trek over Jersey to check her out and meet the "inspector" for me. All things checked out ok. once she gets here I will post 'em up. you guys crack me up- I feel right at home So there is a yearly service I see. what all is entailed? any tips on where to pick up a service manual? ebay? etc.. thanks again everyone ~T **edit** thanks JDM NZ- you answered my questions before I even asked them - good looking out
Relax brother, sounds like you have got yourself a nice car, if Robbie likes it then it must be spot on. Post up the photo's from the dealership......NOW!!!!
Just to note, my "cross 70k mark" is in KM not miles. However, I will bring her to cross 70k Mile sooner than you think !!.. Well as many said, just drive the car and service every now and then. To begin with, we all bought into F car not because we want to be sensible!! Its definetly more expensive than most of the car out there but com'on.. go down the tunnel, wind down the window and bring the NOISE!!!. Funny thing is after driving the car for 2 yrs and put on 20k KM on her, I was offer 10% higher in price (note that I live in Singapore where cars has enormous tax on it and there are only 6-7 units of 355 left here) obviously, Im not selling !!
ok ok .. here are some pics.. but first I wanted to say to UCONN Husky- I have been watching your progress and taking notes about all that you've done and the parts that you've picked up (bushings etc).. I also commend you on your bravery.. looks like my old MR2 engine swap that I did in my garage.. keep on keepin' on.. I'm following your progress.. I would love to get my valve covers powdered coated like yours... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
