I really enjoy my 360, but trips are planned to avoid dips, pot holes and rock chips. I have a few rules.

    1. I never drive it if the streets are wet.
    2. I never drive it if rain or inclement weather is possible.
    3. I don’t drive it on the highway.
    4. I rarely drive it at night.
    5. I don’t drive it where I would have to park it without my eyes on it.
    6. I don’t drive it if it’s super hot outside.
    7. I don’t drive it past 5 miles from home.

That translates to <1000 miles a year. Probably more like 500.

That's a lot of don't! [emoji6] Most are reasonable rules, though I'm not sure I could live with the 5 mile rule! Enjoy...T

I follow #1, 2 and 4. I'm quite a bit more liberal on the rest. I drive probably 30-40 miles from home maximum. I avoid highways as droning along on a highway is a total waste of the car but I take them as the surface roads are abominable. I don't care about rock chips as they are a cost of doing business. If it's hot, it's Memphis, so I can't avoid that if I want to drive the car. I avoid extreme cold too as I only drive with the top down and cold sucks. I'm reliably clocking about 1000 miles a year.

As for security? I park at the edge of the parking lot with the top down, car unlocked. So far, the worst that's happened is the air was let out of my right rear tire.

Also #8: I don't drive if my car is broken.:(

Very cool. Thank you for doing the poll and the analysis. It is interesting that yearly distances are getting shorter. I have two antique sports cars and I try to divide my usage between the two of them although I am much more protective of my Ferrari than I am of my E30 BMW.

Egad! I more or less have the opposite rule from #7 for the Ferrari: I don't take it unless the trip is more than 5 miles!

I admit to following your rules #1 & 2; the Ferrari doesn't have rust proofing so I keep it out of the rain.

I am protective of the car, but am not as extreme as your rule #5. Mine rule is more like not parking in the busy parts of shopping center parking lots. I have a sturdy Hill Engineering shifter gate lock which helps a lot for my peace-of-mind. (I still worry a bit about my almost-irreplaceable factory Cromodora 16" wheels.)

As for Rule #3, I don't like driving on the highways, mostly because they are boring and I feel vulnerable in a car only 44 inches high, but there are many times where I need to get somewhere and highway travel is inevitable.

I live in a small town. If I’m more than 5 miles away, I’m in a part of town I shouldn’t be.

To some degree this thread is depressing to me. Drive the cars. Mine have been in rain, snow, sleet, gravel roads, etc. They don't melt. The FF and Lusso with snow tires are a blast in snow. The Pista Spider can fit a full 5 gallon of TWP deck stain in the bonnet. 8' lumber can easily fit in the Lusso with the back seat folded down; it can also fit two propane tanks to get refilled for grilling and plenty of room for those Costco trips.

Drive them to dinners, grocery stores, hotels, airports, parking garages - you'll be very surprised at how nothing happens to the car. Just don't park like an idiot and take two spots. Park normal; let kids sit in them and take pictures. The smiles are what it's all about - both theirs and yours.

Tomorrow morning I'm getting into this to meet up with 7 mates 1100 miles away in southern Queensland.

They will be in in a couple of 308QV's and some other sporting cars,we then drive about another 1100 miles to meet up with a mob of other enthusiasts to do an about 1100 mile trip on 'roads less travelled'.
The Queenslanders,8 of,will then turn back toward our homes, another 2000 miles for me.

It may rain, there maybe roadworks, potholes and undulating road surfaces.
As above,I maybe waylayed by the odd person asking questions and wanting to take pics(even though it's one of the lowliest versions) or get their kids to sit and take a pic.
It's something you take in your stride with Ferrari ownership and if you can't take it then perhaps y'all should drive Hyundais'!

The poll would be more enlightening if we knew what cars were being driven in the response. A late model $500k Ferrari is driven a fraction of say a 360 or 3xx car due to the mileage curse. Most newer cars are flipped and driven a lot less. Older cars with several prior owners tend to be the ones with the higher annual miles. Stated another way you would see a similar poll distribution if the question were what type of Ferrari car do you own and drive.

I see so many owners and would be owners worrying how much the depreciation will be if they drive the dream they have been working to and are finally able to realise that dream. The difference in price between a higher mileage car and a lower mileage car is in reality not that much and should not make a difference. If a higher mileage car is $50k less than a lower mileage car does that $50K really make a difference? I say if it does make a difference a Ferrari is a financial stretch. You will not enjoy your Ferrari.

My second point and most important as far as I am concerned is that will you on your deathbed be thinking that you drove your Ferrari too much or will you think it was not driven enough. At the moment my health is not good (I have been in and out of hospital so much that the emergency department reception, nurses and doctors know me) and it will take me a long time before I am well enough to go for a drive. My thoughts now are how much I wish I could drive my 599 and that I look forward to being well enough to drive her and rack up the mileage. I do not give a toss what the extra mileage will do to its financial value BUT what it will do to my well being cannot measured in dollars. And yes I have taken my 599 to the hardware store, 2 bags of cement fit easily in the boot.

Wow. Not to take away from the topic of the thread or the forum but would love to hear or see more about the SCV12! How does it compare to the XX V12 cars of yours?

I agree that more granular data would be helpful to everyone here. There seems to be at least 2 distinct categories of drivers with very different driving patterns (low mileage on new cars and insane mileage on older models), exploring this makes sense. Later on I would like to prepare a more detailed survey, I'll be gathering the main questions the community would like to see answered and then we can use a more appropriate tool to do it, instead of just a poll.
