I'm just curious, as it seems that the overwhelming majority of Ferraris I spot or meet do not have the front license plate on.

guilty. But it's only been two months. I understand I've missed being pulled over a few times (my brother-in-law knows some of the local police). We'll see how it goes.

I'd guess it's 50/50 on the cars I see out here.

dunno, but would guess a $75 ticket and required to show a plate attached in the near future. I've got a sob story of a passionate italian mechanic causing me headaches (not true), and I'm trying to get him to schedule me in and to order the part (mostly true).

Any of the local constables on here - well, of course I'm joking!

I got stopped a few years ago, but can't remember what the fine was. I think it was close to $100. I was never told to put the plate back on. I guess they want repeat business.

Ahhh.....one of the ONLY joys of driving in Quebec, no front plates.

Like I said, ONE of the ONLY joys.

    This is a brilliant question.
I am licensed and registered in N.Y.S.
and spend a lot of time crossing the
border into Ontario. On my 456M GT
I have yet to install the front plate,
which I keep in the "glove compartment".
When crossing the border back into
Upstate N.Y. or when driving around the
neighborhood in the presence of a local
policeman, I reach in the compartment,
grab the front plate, and place it on
the dash, "just in case ...".
If ever asked--and I have never been asked,
my response will be, "I am waiting for
my dealer to get the correct 'clamps' so I
can install the front plate" and comply with
    New York State law.

Not wanting to flaunt the law, and realizing the extra attention these F cars usually get from the police (fairly or unfairly)..I had a front plate attached to the front of my 355...I thought it looked horrible, but they were able to do it with out boring any holes in the front( it was a clip on plate holder) and it didnt really affect the car in any other way than looks, as bad as that was...I could live with it. This whole issue was also one of my very first Fchat posts as well.

Recently, I traded my 355 in for a 550...and I am faced with the same dilemma again..or am I? It also would look horrible as opposed to no front plate, but I could live with that....what I cant live with is that unlike the 355 this front plate holder would have to be mounted by boring into the front bumper (arghh!) as well as blocking the air flow to the radiator...these 2 additional problems I can not abide by...so I guess I'll have to take my chances and hopefully, If I do get pulled over for it, find a sympathetic ear either at the ticketing or the hearing stage...cest la ferrari vie, I guess..

About a month ago I was sitting at a red light on a major street going eastbound. I was the first car in line. A westbound cop pulled a U-turn in front of me, and pulled over to the side of the road. When I went by, he pulled in behind me and turned on his flashing lights. He then gave me a ticket for $110 for not having a front plate. I explained that I had just put 3M stone guard on my front bumper and was told to wait three days before I put the plate back on (not true). I asked him if he wanted to see the tape. He said no. I asked him if he wanted to see the plate. He said no. He just went back to his car and wrote me up for $110.

I don't care about the $110 as much as I care about the ticket because you never know when your insurance company is going to start counting tickets of any description in an effort to raise your premiums.

I hate to sound like a snob, but the whole purpose of a front plate is to make it easier for the cops to find a car. If you have a white Toyota Corolla a front plate helps. There are just not that many titanium Modenas on the streets. It is easier to find a titanium 360 with no front plate than it is to find a white Toyota Corolla even if you know the front plate.

The whole law on this issue sucks. This cop was out to get a guy in a Ferrari who was flaunting the law. If I had been in a white Toyota Corolla with no front plate, he would not have pulled the U-turn.

I am not sure how accurate the calculations were, but somebody in the states calculated how many tens of thousands of barrels of oil would be saved every year by doing away with license plates. The plates adversely affect air dynamics and if you add that up for all cars it makes a difference. So in reality, I am doing my part to save the planet by leaving the front plate off my Ferrari.
