I haven't actually switched - I collected 1/18 about 10 years ago, sold it all only to eventually buy some back at much higher prices :) But I'm also collecting 1/64 HW and 1/43 :)

1:43 is considered by many the "noble scale". I have been collecting all scales for long time. The 1:43 models save space, but they can get really pricey

Collect both 1:43 (Hot Wheels) and 1:18 if I find the good ones. Haven't had time to "hunt" for them since school gets in the way, but I'll be looking for some Hot Wheels. Costco quit selling the $10.00 Maisto models, even at Christmas time, so I stopped looking until I found some for that cheap again.

1:43s dont really do it for me. I much prefer the larger models. Its a shame that there are so many more models to choose from in the smaller scales. You'll never find a Gembala Avalanche in 1:18, but they come in all colors in 1:43

In my over 30 year of collecting and building, I always preferred 1/43 scale models.
I also have some 1/12, 1/20 and 1/18 scale models. The mentioned larger scale are mostly hand builds , except for Exoto and CMC.
My main reason on collecting 1/43 scale models are the space and the different versions I can get.
Since my main collection consist mostly of F1 Ferraris, I can built or buy factory builds F1 versions from almost every race during a season. This would be impossible on a larger scale.
Those little jewels are defiantly costly, but they hold there value.

I still collect both 1/43 and 1/18. I am awaiting CMC's 1/18th Ferrari 156 #2 Monza winner to come out as well as Exoto's 1/18th Ferrari 156 Olivier Gendebien (yellow race version). I just bought (2 days ago) 1/43rd BBR-CAR04 Ferrari 410SA series III (Peter Kalikow)... Can't wait to get it in the mail.... :)

Since my youth I was collecting 1/18 models ... and now (2 years ago) I've started with 1/43 !!!!
    And it's horrible :D
    In 2 years :
    BBR MC12 Corsa
    BBR 612 Sessanta
    Looksmart 575 Superamerica
Lambo LP640 roadster by MR Models
    Pagani Zonda F Spark Model
    FXX by RedLine
    + 4 IXO's ! (enzo x2, fxx, 599)
I only have 10 cars ... and there have costed me more than the 30-40 models I collected since my 1/18 "beginning" !
    Damm :(

Christman is coming, and I'll certainly by a F430 Scud by Looksmart + Scuderia 16M by BBR ! Also looking to by FXX EVO (Looksmart or BBR) + Lambo Reventon + 360 CS BBR + 456 venice wagon BBR :( :( :(

What's the average price of a high end 1:43 model (BBR for example) at the moment? When I switched from 1:43 to 1:18 about 8 years ago one of the reasons was that great 1:43 models were much more expensive than even an Exoto 1:18. It was no contest. 1:18 was the way to go for me.

I also liked the fact that there were less models to choose from in 1:18 (high end). Quality over quantity so to speak. But in the meantime a lot of 1:18 models have come out and I'm also running out of space.

The amount of detail and the right stance and proportions are still better in 1:18 IMO.

I currently have 1:43s, 1:18s, 1:32s (slot car) and 1:24 (slot car). Going forward I will stick to 1:18 only.

200/250 EURO is the price in today market.
1:18 is a problem of space if you collect since the '60!
1:43 is a problem of space after 40 years and you have more then 4.000 models!
    all the best.

I have about 450 models of which 300 are 1:18 scale. The only reason i started buying 1:43 models was because i couldnt buy a particular Ferrari model in 1:18. I now have approx 150 Ferraris in the smaller scale! But its now got to the stage where i am buyin 1:43 cars to match the 1;18 cars that i have! I do think that the 1:18 are a nicer scale and less "toy" like compared to 1:43. Just my 2 cent worth.

    I consider myself a diehard 1/43 collector. Recently I got rid of a 1/24 Tecnomodel 250 GT SWB and a 1/18 Mamone 166 Inter. Apart from the 1/8 Pocher F40, I only have 1/43.

I just get so much more pleasure from looking at a well built (hand built) model in 1/43 then from a diecast 1/18. In fact, 1/18 just doesn´t float my boat as much as handbuilt 1/43 do.

To me, it isn´t the size that makes a car look toy like. A Laurent Tay-built white metal 1/43 makes any 1/18 look like a cheap waste of metal.

Funny. To me the fact that 1/43 offers a much broader range of types is also a big plus. I want a collection that represents the history of Ferrari road-cars and racers (but no F1). But that´s a matter of personal collecting choices.

I'm trying to resist the temptation to collect by brand even though I have some repeats between my Kyosho, Ixo, Jouef, Herpa, BBR and Make Up. I have 1 Redline - the F430 Spider in red. I think the Redlines are better value for the money than others in the 100-200 price range and arguably even the BBRs.

Even the Redline 1:87 scale are amazing. I have a few and they are incredible even at such a small scale.
