The thought has crossed my mind a few times. I know the biggest problem is the fear that someone would trash your car but there must be a way to make money since all there are exotic car rental companies out there. depending on the car some of those guys get 2k a day! Would it be worth it to you to take the chance for that kind of money knowing that your going to have to service the car more frequently and repair wear and tear? Im considering giving it a try.

To do this commercially would require a license and VERY spendy insurance riders.
IMO, not worth it for the individual. The odds of very expensive repairs (your renters
won't all be responsible drivers!!) are very high.

With a single car for an individual, I don't think it's a viable business model.

    Just my 2 cents....

It alters a TON of things from insurance to how the car is titled....

Not a casual proposition......and the number of Ferrari accidents due to lack of experience in the car is very high.....

I let random people (well, attractive females mostly) drive mine all the tim, but it's not a formal business transaction.

You should call and talk to Benny Black at Platinum Exotic's in Dallas. I feel that alot of his inventory are personal cars that get rented out during their non-use time.

Benny might be able to 1. Give you some insite 2. Help you with your car

Probably not worth it at all. If you're making money off of it and the guy goes bananas and kills someone you'd probably get dragged into the multi-million dollar law suit. You could be SOL if the insurance company found you were using your car for commercial purposes. Not sure if this is how this scenario would play out if things went bad but I'm sure not too far off. At the very least the guy will trash your car for the length of rental. High probability of it anyway.

You mean... rent it out to someone?

I'd rent out my girlfriend before I'd rent out my Ferrari.

Regular rental cars can be a bit ragged and are sold off at between 20K and 50K miles, before they are complete junk. If you rented the car out and all went well you would end up with a very tired and used up Ferrari. Everything is restorable, but scrapes and dings on the pan of the car will let others know this car was driven hard and abused. I rented a new corvette and as it was a rental I'd squeeze it into any parking spot at wal mart. I don't think you'd want that to occur with your car. And then some young guy will think it would be cool to slide across the hood like the dukes of hazzard and put a crack in your bonnet.

    Speed bump at 25mph?

PS. The Corvette I rented had low miles and stress cracks in the body including one break when I picked it up. Did I mention I got the car to .89G on a lane change, it was violent but very fun.

Let's change this thread to: How to make renting our girlfriends viable.

There are a lot more people doing that - in just about every city in the country - than are renting out exotics.

    Gotta be workin' for someone.

I do know a guy in Vegas that had a 360 spyder, who took pictures of people in the car. I think he charged $20 a shot. I know that he did very well with that project.

In order to make the car rental business work you need hundreds of vehicles.

Letting someone rent your Ferrari is like letting someone sleep with your wife and hope nothing happens.

Some things are just not worth it. ;)

In Nevada that would require at least two different rental services.

I'd consider it, but only if it was a high miles car and/or part of my idea in owning it was to rent it. I batted around the idea of doing a small rental biz like 5 years ago even before I moved to Vegas.

Two main issues are having enough commercial insurance, and how the vehicle is titled/owned (leasing companies wouldn't lease exotics for rental). If you're serious about it, get a high miles 1999 360. They're even in the low $50ks and $40ks. $40k at $500-750-$1k+ per day is not that bad to recoup, and you can of course drive it on off days too.

I think it's largely a personality thing and how you feel about cars and property. Some people won't let you touch their toys. Some are more "hey try this!" Some let people borrow stuff (even exotic cars) and don't care.
