Here you go....from the very early days with original reg. I took this photo - never shared before... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Robert, Would you know the VIN of the gorgeous blue acapulco RHD for sale in late 2011 at Simon Furlonger Specialist Cars?
Thanks Robert... There is a great photo in original reg on the shore tide out looking out to sea with a boat in the for ground. I have 4 reg numbers know for her.
Both this and the DK Eng car were blue and pictured without a rear wing, but the DK Eng car is an 88 car with side skirts, where the Simon Furlonger car is a QV without side skirts.
Holley Molly! what shop is this? nice collection. Do I see a stratos there?. This QV is one of my favorite. I love the color and it looks it was well maintained
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerard_Lopez_(businessman) It's Gerard's personal collection which I have posted before when he got the Countach QV. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Robert, The 1987 car was delivered new to Ali Taffi of Maida Vale London by Portman. The 1988.5 car was delivered new to Steve Downs of Sevenoaks in Kent by Portman. The 1987 car has a blue dash & steering but no piping. The 1988.5 car has standard dash & steering but does have piping.
What is so horrific about the records for these cars, is that they are so varied and inaccurate. For example, this blue pre-88 QV was first registered in 1986 (not 1987) and Alli Tafiq (not Ali Taffi) was the original owner's name....but I'm sure there are lots of similar variations on all of these! What's surprising is that this is the only RHD pre-88 QV originally delivered in blue. Seems unlikely, but as far as I can see this is true.
When I wrote 'only about 12 RHD QV Countach are left in the UK' in an article in evo magazine back in 2010 (when introducing my QV to evo readers), I wasn't aware how much debate had been generated by this subject in the past. I needed a to arrive at a number to illustrate if you fancied buying a RHD Countach QV, then you needed to be patient because they were actually rare cars, especially compared to most Ferraris produced around the same period. My figure of 12 UK RHD QV's was arrived at by speaking to Mike Pullen and Mike Perry (who sold these cars alongside Del Hopkins while at Portmans in London) but I would have also tapped into the expertise on this excellent forum, had I known it had existed at the time..
I wouldn't exactly describe the lack of accurate record-keeping for Countachs in the period as being "horrific", but I do agree it is unfortunate. The 80s was not an era where anyone really cared about this sort of thing. I can't even remember the chassis number of my own nearly-new DDQV, and generally speaking I'm blessed with an almost photographic memory! Having said that, all's well because we have people (such as yourself) who are doing great work establishing a registry for cars you are interested in, as some of us have done the past 20 years. Ali Taffi was my next-door-neighbor in Maida Vale when that car was new. I'm certain his first name is spelled Ali (and NOT "Alli"), and I have an old business card of his somewhere spelling out his name as I have done. As to the year, I believe it was a "D"-registered car, and I have seen it for sale once in the past described as a "1987" by people who ought to have the car's paperwork, but in this instance I feel sure you know that it is a 1986 and I'm happy to defer to same. FWIW Ali replaced that car with a black 25th Anniversary.
Ok, here goes, the RHD pearl white QVs: 1. Mint green interior - pictured with F40 (my photo) totally destroyed in an accidnet in France. 2. EBK1 with gold lettering on the back which is the car for the princess. Car that featured with then owner Simon M on brilliant videoon Countach thread. 3. ROD65 long term owner in Scotland (Carlo, I believe). 4. UK car sold to Australia, and most recently Nov 09 in auction in Oz. Can't find a 5th car, but did one go from red to pearl as 123quackers said? As the title says...how many RHD? I guess you are not including the white non pearl here. ROD 65 indeed is ZA9C005A0HLA12138 how did the pepermint crashed in France? when? May be we should start a thread about the crashed cars!
The crashed cars thread would be very insightful, IF it could be done without the thread becoming a bashing match. When claims are made regarding damage, people get very bent out of shape quick. I guess they feel if nobody says anything about it, and the car can fly below the radar, the car's value won't be affected, or what happens when someone finds the bought a previously repaired car...oh boy! When this type of info is publicised it gives the impression the car is damaged goods. Thats what documented restorations are for. If the resto is well done, all is well, with nothing to hide. Now that wrote that....if talking about totaled out, and scrapped cars, thats different. I think we all are interested to know whats gone and whats left.
Of course that should be about totalled cars. There are a few.One showed up in the inj thread and over the years many have surfaced. Like completly burned out cars or that CT that was mashed in pieces on the Italian hiway some 8 years ago. talks of a car that is totalled and not driven cannot hurt anyone. the reparable damaged car dont count. and yes it would be best to treat such thread as a informational thread with pictures and fact and callout speculation if we are capable of such here. That should be a thread to uncover true facts. Note that the funnything isthat some models, like very expensive rare and old ferraris ,have been totalled but yet command still a high price in the market even with the history disclosure and the complete rebuild. Double standard ?
The old supply & demand. Sometimes just a vin number seems to be a viable Ferrari restoration project. The amazing one for me is the parting out of a restored 250GTE to build a replica GTO.
I have put a lot of work into finding out how many RHD Countachs there are, but this is very difficult to establish. There were 67 RHD Anniverary Countachs imported into the UK (excluding LHD ones that came in through the UK) but there were other RHD Anniveraries into other countries (eg at least a red Australianb one and a yellow South African one) There were 16 RHD 88.5 Countachs imported into the UK. One was written off (pictures below). One currently lives in Malaysia (the famous E181LYY white/white car). One black car still lives outside the UK. Are there any more 88.5 ksirted QVs outside the UK anywhere anyone? There were only about 36 RHD non-88.5 QVs imported into the UK, although there may be up to 6 that I'm not 100% sure are RHD or LHD and there may be up to 10 more that are said to be LHD, but may be RHD. Hence, there are between 30 and 46 non-88.5 UK RHD Countachs. This is much lower than expected, but I am sure it is right. There were 5 Countach QVs in RHD imported into Australia. There are a few RHD cars scattered round the world - if anyone can tell me which red QVs are/were in Malaysia, that would be great, as they are probably UK cars that have gone over there. Two RHD cars included in these numbers have been destroyed. There is certainly one red RHD QV in Hong Kong - any more over there? There were a lot of cars that came into Lambo UK for the Middle East, but suprisingly these were mainly LHD. LP5000S UK RHD 33 cars (+/- about 3) of which two were sent to South Africa. (these cars are from UK XYA and B registration, so run up to the QV). Again, quote of lot of cars came inot the UK and were LHD and sent to the Middle East, Scandinavia and Europe. LP400S - at least 8 RHD cars worldwide LP400 - at least 18 RHD cars worldwide (I suspect this is reasonably accurate) This makes a total of about 178 UK RHD Countachs. There were far more LHD cars than anyone thought imported into the UK, then sent to other places than previously thought. A few cars to ask for help identifying to follow: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can anyone identify these cars? "BULLS8" was at the Carrera Sport Testdays and at LeMans. The number plate was then on a blue Diablo. Which white 500S is this? A69GBA is a dummy plate on this 500S at Talacrest in 1990 - any idea which car this is? The third 500S was a white/white car for sale at Rosso Corsa back in the 1990s - does anyone know which car this is? Have asked the then Talacrest guys and the then Rosso Corsa guys, who don't know. Another question - at the Carrera Sport Testdays at Goodwood - who was the guy pictured earlier in the thread who noted down the details of every car? Would like to talk to him for sure, as he'd help me massively. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is the pearl white one mentioned earlier. It is owned by the Captain of the Lamborghini Club. The red one is mine which was imported from the UK. 9,000 km on the clock when I bought it 18 months ago and now has 13,000 km on it. Recently I installed the power steering that Harry Metcalf had installed and it has totally transformed the car. Absolutely recommend it. Don't know anything about the other 2. At the time its wedge shape body with distinctive scissor doors was seen as futuristic. Powered by a mid-mounted longitudinal Lamborghini V12 with the 5-speed gearbox ahead of the engine and drive to the diff running back through the sump. The production version LP400 was available in 1974, with extra ducts added to aid engine cooling. The original model was superseded by the LP400S in 1978, featuring wider tyres covered by wheelarch extensions. 1982 saw the engine enlarged from 4.0 to 4.8 litres, this version being known as the LP500S. For 1985 the engine capacity grew to 5.2 litres and gained four valves per cylinder. This 5000QV model became the first Countach available in the USA, with Bosch injection replacing carburetors on the Federal version. For 1988 a 25th Anniversary edition was introduced featuring revised air vents and rear lights. This continued in production until replaced by the Diablo in 1990, by which time just over 2000 had been built Image Unavailable, Please Login
