left you stranded and how pissed off were you!? I've gone thru some of the threads here and while everyone praise their 308's, has this ever happened to you somewhere far and lonely? Also ever tried to start your car while everyones admiring and then nothing; won't even start. Good thing we have cell phones.

i have owned my 78 euro carb 308 for 8 years now, and it has never let me down. always started, got me there and got me back. i must say that it is the most reliable vehicle i have ever owned. never needed a trickle charge, battery is always full of charge. the worst thing that has happened to my 308 is the drivers side window got stuck halfway up (or down). enjoy,, carb 308s are simple in design, no computer chips etc........

If you want a well made and reliable vehicle, buy a Toyota.

If you want one with all the passion and driving excitement that only an Italian car can deliver, get a Lamborghini.

Never...it has sputtered a few times in the garage or driveway and thus never made it to the street, but at least it has never stranded me thus needing a tow or flatbed.

Where's a piece of wood when I need it?

Knocking on wood... never. Of course you really need to get Fchatter Birdman's fuse box upgrade as the stock unit causes, i;d guess, 90% of the troubles of being stuck.

Here, here. It's only left me stranded once because of that pesky fuse box. However, I take the blame since I ignored the warning signs. ...naughty, naughty.

The first week I had the car it left me stranded, but has been fine ever since, starts right up every time. I bought Birdman's fuse box, but have yet to put it on!?

The only reason I'm not driving mine right now is because it was in an accident a month ago and is currently in the body shop. Never let me down once in 14 months of ownership...

none of my 3 308's nor my 2 Lambos have ever let me down. its all about paying attention to what the car needs before you drive it. think of it as a "pre flight" inspection.

I've owned my 85 Qv for 11 years... and have only been stranded once... and then only about 2 miles from my house... I've driven between Atlanta and Pittsburgh Pa many times... and never had a problem except a flat tire... ran over a shredded truck tire...and I ran over the frozen carcas of a deer that had been struck by a truck... thats what happens when idiots try to egg you on to race them in their toyota supras... I did not take the bait and the guy was right next to me when the deer carcas came into view so I had no room to go... ALthough its been a bit pesky lately and you have to be carefull to avoide Atlanta traffic ( especially in the summer ) so you dont get into an overheating situation... not a major problem... my major issue has been all the money it takes to care for the thing... seems there is always some thing to re build or replace!

My GT4 strands me about once a year on average.
    so far:
    Clutch cable snapped.
    Coolant hose split
Ignition fault (which turned out to be a new part which failed!)

As you say, thank goodness for Cellphones and the Automobile Association.

Just once. The water pump shaft sheared off (yes, sheared!).

Actually, I wasn't stranded in that the car ran. It just took three stops for cooling the engine and adding water to get it the 10 miles home.

    Regards, Kerry

During a hot day last summer, the 90 degree elbow hose on the driver's side top decided to leak a bit. i was in town, went to Pep Boys or some such and found a match after we cut some other hose up that had longer 'leg' extensions. R/R'ed the hose, added coolant.

Total cost about $35 and took about 20 minutes total. It was a yawner fix at best. In fact that same hose has now endured about 20 track days and who knows how many daily drives and is fine.

<YAWN> Guess the 308QV here is boring ;)

    Stranded...sort of.

A couple of summers ago I was on my way to a golf tourny which was about a 1 1/2 hr drive from home. I blew the H2O/Alt belt on the way but when it went I was about 5 miles from my in-law's house.

I limped the car to the inlaws. I then took a taxi to the airport (5 miles) rented a car, got to the 1st round of the tourny friday on time, won the golf tourny, fixed the car on monday and went home.

Pure luck. So not too pissed.

In three years of ownership, I have only been stranded once when the ignition locked up. (Key would not turn in the ignition.) That (knock on wood) was the only time I have ever had to have it towed.

    Clutch disintegrated along with flywheel.

Needed a tow...wasn't driving and the guy who was still feels bad about it.

Just this once in three plus years.

I had an oil cooler line let go on the highway. Spectacular fireball, very messy to clean up.
I think if everybody had to own a couple old english cars before buying a Ferrari, we would all have a better sense of humor about our cars! :)
