I guess this post is made just to rant about an ex gf who I have no right to judge, but I do have the right to my own taste, and I also want to see what the group finds acceptable in a girlfriend / wife.

Question: How much body art (Piercings, tatts) will you put up with in a date / girlfriend? Esp. on their face!

I was watching HIMYM last night and a character had drunk tat, and I started talking about them with my brother. I met a ex GF out having coffee a few months ago. I had been gone for a long time on mission and had not seen her. (It has been a very hard time in her life with a lost job and possibly loosing her home.) She is a cute girl, blond hair blue eyes, shapely and sweet. She had her hair cut short which is nice and dyed dark black. (ok) She seemed well and from where I sat the sun was in my eyes and I did not see that she was sporting a new nose stud in her left nostril for about 5 minuets.

    Gross!

I just stared at it for a bit... I think my reaction was obvious though. I was appalled! Call me a child, but I HATE nose rings. I have never seen one I thought had a positive effect on ones features and most of the time it looks like a bugger has been missed by your handkerchief. Same really with all piercings and tattos on ones face. It is not my right to judge for them, but for me, for my personal ascetic, I cant stand them! (I hate tatts on boobies too and in pubic regions, but I dont mind piercings as much. :) )

As for her, she has many tattoos most or all of which are covered by clothes. I am ok with tatts on girls as long as they are not big or poorly done. I dont particularly like them to be seen outside of bathing suits, and I really dont like them on arms like a Sailor. But I can appreciate the booty tat and the ankle wrap even if I believe that most humans dont need any help to look good.

    But again the question:

Question: How much body art (Piercings, tatts) will you put up with in a date / girlfriend? Esp. on their face!

With you on the nose piercings. I just have to ask "why?!!!!!"

It seems like a fad now to have tatts, the only problem is fads like break dancing or perms can be stopped or reveresed but a tatt is forever.

My wife has a panther around her privates which is semi hidden with a bikini bottom that is real nice but anymore will be to much. It's cool to see a tatt hidden behind a shirt or pants and say "oh, didn't expect that!"

But yes if I was single and dating, and I saw a arm band tatt or a nose ring, im gone. Unless I was drink then game on. ;)

I actually kind of like the nose piercing. I don't mind tats or piercings as long as they can be covered and are tasteful. A few of my exes have had tattoos, but all in areas that could be covered if need be.

Neck and breast tattoos are the absolute worst. Deal breaker right there.

The best was one of my exes that had a tounge ring...

Really? From what I have seen, they can not be covered and if you take one out, there is still a hole. (Dont be on that side when she sneezes!!!)

If you've got sh*t stuck in your face you'll get no time from me.

Tattoos OTOH are acceptable as long as they are not on the face. Had a blonde stylist cut my hair Saturday......she had a full sleeve done on one arm.......no problem.

A nose piercing is not as bad as some things that someone can do to their body. I have always been told that the nose hole will grow shut just like your ears will if the hole is left with nothing in it over time especially if its a new piercing. The piercings take at least 6 weeks to even become remotely stable. If it can be taken out and covered with makeup for "special" appearances. I don't see ones problem with it if you really do care about the person.

Again it has to be subtle, nothing crazy. I think the hole actually closes pretty quickly. Two of my ex gfs had them for a while. Once they got real jobs they removed them and it closed quickly. There is a small mark from where the piercing was. But really it just looks like a freckle.

Totally subjective. Personally I don't like anything other than a trim figure. It's just a matter of what you can tolerate as typically the more the skankier. Some people find it exciting to date nuttier chicks that show it outwardly i.e. drastic hair color changes, piercings, lots of tatoos, plastic surgery, the list goes on. It's probably fair to say that the more altering the more deep seeded unresolved issues from the past. You want to deal with that? It all depends on whatever turns you on and what you want to put up with?

Nose rings are cute to me as well as belly button. Minor ear peircings are fine as well. Tats are a no go they do nothing for me and are a turn off.

Not a huge fan, either, but it also depends on how hot the canvas is. :)

Also, ho it fits their personality figures heavily, although many with the personality to "own" the statement are too grating. Those I not only endure, but actually find attractive, would be the very intelligent, otherwise reserved/business type, with something that doesn't shout publicly, but is undeniably there - that hint of their a suppressed side.

I'm tattoo'd so it would be hard for me to judge another person based on a bit of flash stuck in her nose, or some ink.

Those of you who find piercings and tattoos distasteful should be glad women get them. It instantly tells you that you can move on, something men should value. They're not wasting your time, it's right out there; "this is the kind of woman I am".

While you're walking away, I'll see if she puts out easy.

Im tattooed but I still find chicks with body art have to be judged on a case by case basis.

Sometimes one tattoo and nothing else (say a rose on the breast) will completely turn me off.

Other times a girl can be completely covered and I think she's hot.

There is not hard and fast rule here.

As far as piercings. I dislike them more often than I like them. I had to break up with a chick once because she got her nipples pierced. They completely took away the fun.

My only objection is if you have to iron the gal to see what the tats used to be. Or worse if they are stretched like the Sunday comics transferred to Silly Putty.

I once went out with a girl that was extensively pierced. That wasn't the deal breaker....the chain that ran from ear, to nose, to lip, to nip, to navel, and then continued south scared the crap out of me.

I am very grateful. (It tells me to not expect much beyond maybe a good lay because chances are you cant discuss virology with me. :p )

Seriously though, for me the key beyond my personal taste is "where can I take you?" For a sleep buddy, sure, fine. But for someone that I will may be taking to formal balls or fund raisers here in the Rural South, or out with my parent's older firends, it is a deal killer. I am sure it is different in places like LA or NYC, but I dont live there.

JR I think part of the problem here is that you would go to formal balls or fundraisers ;)

Sounds like the general consensus on body art is---
    Quoting Dr. Dre and Snoop..........

Now this this is one of them occasions
where the homies not doin it right
I mean he found him a hoe that he like
But you can't make a hoe a housewife
And when it all boils down you gonna find in the end
    a b!tch is a b!tch, but a Dogg is a man's best friend
So what you found you a hoe that you like
But you can't make a hoe a housewife

hahaha, good philosophy. Or just keep some ho's in different area codes...

Anyway, to answer the OP's question, I think it just depends on the person. I'm not personally into tattoos, but I sure wouldn't pass up dating a guy I like because he's got some. Now I do have an ex that had a big tattoo on his forearm with some obscure reference to an Alien movie and that kinda bugged me. It just was too much. As far as piercings, I can't picture myself dating a man with a facial piercing at all, but I actually think they can be cute on girls.

nose piercings just look weird...to me they look like a spot or something.

Lip rings OTOH, can look awesome.

Like Jerry, I also think that tattoo's on chicks really depends on how she looks like, how the tats look like...Some girls just have the right looks to have awesome tats.
