Italiafan: did you see the yellow TdF pop up on AutoTrader today? 849k asking, 550 miles. Image Unavailable, Please Login
these cars are annoyingly mileage sensitive, if you actually drive it lots then you'll lose quite a bit
There's a 7K mile TdF at Ferrari Salt Lake City. If one liked the spec, might that be the one to drive into the ground, as it were? T https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/798044471/overview?aff=share_text
I glanced at that one for about a nanosecond. Super boring spec and high asking price considering spec and miles. Also, and I likely am in the minority here, but for a special Ferrari to keep I really want that beautiful Italian leather interior along with exciting exterior color spec. I’d prefer a car with 5-10K miles on it, single owner, and lower price because of the miles.
I adhere to a simple concept when indulging in an extravagant purchase- Subtract the cost out of your assets and if what remains will not negatively impact upon your standard of living, then it can be comfortably undertaken.
The sensible approach is to ensure you die in debt (Unless you have kids and want to leave them something!!)
Not really. More like actively dreaming. I keep running up against the issue that I love to drive...and drive...and drive. In mountains of NC right now on road trip, another 3500 miles this week likely...and looking for a second house to garage car’s so that I can go on great drives and road trips. Roads aren’t great in southwest Florida. I think the F12tdf is one of the finest modern Ferrari’s (along with 458SA)...but they are soooo mileage sensitive. Wish I had the guts to ignore the mileage issue.
Just go for it man Like you I'm wishing/hoping that more owners drive their TDFs and enjoy, especially once 812 VS comes out if anyone will be "swapping" for that. I'd love to find a TDF for sale next year with >10k miles like the Speciale I found last year.
well i voted in the 10mill asset range. i think around there you could still drive the car a lot and not worry about the additional depreciation. for me a car that expensive i couldn't enjoy it like a 200k car. or you could just buy a used F12 and drive the hell out of it.
Right, the TDF is my dream car but for the reasons you evokes (+ the fact I'm far from the 10mill range! Lol) I'm thinking of a nice F12 with the TDF alignements specs...
That is what I did, I drive it as often as possible. This doesn't mean I am not super particular but certainly not worried about mileage like I would be with a TDF.
actually let me put this another way that is more fair: choice between a 200k F12 plus 600k in cash vs a F12TDF which would you pick? i would choose the F12 plus cash everytime
Very true. Now 10 years from now the f12 is worth 100k and the 600k might have become 720k which is 820k, is the tdf that value , more or less in 10 years? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We could be dead tomorrow... if I have the means, I'm going after what I want. So I'd be going tdf all day and twice on Sundays, could not care less about future value of a car. That's for investments!
In part that is the reason I am now averaging 1000 miles/month on my 2019 RC 812SF. An amazing, stunning, and frighteningly fast V12 Ferrari with a soundtrack fit for the Gods.
Or your 600k may have turned to zero, eaten up by your bank... We are talking about sports cars here, not about investments. The only questions are do you really want this car and can you afford it?
I don’t disagree! Personally I’d keep the 600k and buy a f12 instead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just a thought that ran through my head: you have an 812, in some respects it is not entirely far off the TDF experience, in others, there is a considerable difference. But lets just say you have a fabulous V12 Ferrari with the heavenly soundtrack. To get into a TDF it will be $900-1m? If you want another V12 Ferrari, maybe look one model earlier at a 599 GTO? That is if you were planning to keep the 812, sorry I didn't read the entire thread.
My unsolicited opinion below: I’ve owned an 812 SF for a year. I’ve never driven an F12 TDF. I recently drove a 599 GTO and here are my thoughts with the 812 as a frame of reference: Sound- GTO is louder and more angry. It sounds great. 812 also sounds great. 812 has a more polished, slightly cleaner sound, but it’s quieter. GTO has a more aggressive sound. Handling - The GTO feels like a very heavy car compared to the 812. I love the fact that the 812 makes a relatively heavy car feel quite nimble. Other - Gearing is noticeably longer in GTO, so you aren’t getting up to redline nearly as often as you are in 812. Overall I felt like the handling was so much more sports car like in the 812, the gearing being shorter makes the 812 feel quite aggressive really, and if I want more volume I can crack the windows. Was seriously considering the GTO until I drove it- if I didn’t compare it to anything else it’s an amazing machine, but compared to the 812 SF the GTO isn’t for me.
