Do you get asked this a lot, I do. Almost every time at the gas station. If so, what do you say, I have a hard time blurting out $280,000.
Depends on how you want them to think of you, they have no clue how much it actually cost anyway. Since options can be $150k, even normal car guys don't know how much it really is unless they are into it. Then there is dealer mark up or depreciation, is all over the place. $100k if you want to be humble, or $1.5M.........just tell them is a LaFerrari, you got the 1st one in the country
I do something very similar... I say " the right amount to splurge on myself" AFTER taking care of our Home and two daughter's college educations.
I have a story about that. True story--- Once I was driving on the Vegas strip and a car full of 20 something boys pulls up to me. The driver yells at me: "Hey man! How can you afford that? How much did you pay?" I didn't say anything but just I held up 3 fingers and smiled. They all said: "Whoa! 300 grand???". I said; "No. 3 dollars. I won it playing slots." The looks on their faces as I sped off was priceless.
I thought you suppose to teach the kids to go study and work hard, not telling them to go gamble. Kidding
If someone asks the price, I tell them, and others may say "nice car" to which I respond, "thank you". Many say something like "that cost some money" and I , with a smile on my face say "the payments are *****" (I paid cash for the car) In general, people are curious and polite and I try to treat them respectfully. Best
It was a gift from my girlfriend. She won't tell how much it cost cuz my wife would be upset over that big a gift.
When asked, I tell them "4 years of college and 30 years of hard work". (I borrowed that from another Fchater). When adults hear this they chuckle. When kids hear it, you can see them thinking it through.
I tell them. Followed by 20+ years of college, post grad and training. Had to work hard but it was worth it.
I would love to have a Klimt. I will have to settle for a Ferrari. LOL Ron Lauder paid a fortune for that painting.
In fact! Unambiguous cheaper have a work of art in our garage than on our wall. And, to me, in spite my admiration for the grate painters, much more fun! Ron Lauder doesnt think so because he may afford to have more than 400 Ferraris if he wants too. Nice guy!
