You are also going to buy alot of wheels. Potholes are not friendly to 20" wheels. Most people I know who live in the city rent a car when they need one. I wouldn't park a Ferrari on the street in Atlanta much less NYC. Take a walk and look at the bumpers, doors and mirrors of the cars parked on the street.

Opportunity lost may be subjective. Depending upon you age, ability to pay, and obligations
(self imposed and mandatory) you may find the opportunity lost is the 458. One must consider Saint Peter though.

By definition anyone who buys a 458 or anything like it makes a judgement that the opportunity to experience ownership is worth more than the cost.

Well, it is one of the best cars Ferrari has ever made. Faster than an F40 and looks to die for. Look at the classic Ferraris that sell for millions and look at the performance of the 458 and looks to die for. Plus the car sounds great. Not to mention being much safer than the classics.

If you don't want a garage queen, the 458 is a bargain IMVHO.

    I rest my case. ;)

Agreed, best Ferrrari ever. Get a beater car and park on NYC streets, but shelter your 458 in a garage and drive often. Cheers!

I had my old E90 M3 serviced at a normal garage and he didn't tighten the second sump plug.....chasing a 360 CS down the motorway a short while after....yes you can probably guess what happened. Bye Bye engine.

That's expensive but I expect insurance to cover such things.

No expense except new tires every 7k miles. F355 and 360 was only 5k miles so the 458 is less expensive.

Why should running costs on 458 be any different than other modern sport cars? Modern ferrari, 911, gtr, r8, viper, z06 should all be similar. Oil once yr, radiator and brake fluid every 2 years. What else is there now that engine out belt changes every 3 yrs are ancient history?

Assuming it's 400K after tax, pay cash, here's the way I thought:
    1. investment return on 400K, relatively safe products, for example, 10%?, so it's 40K
    2. Depreciation , 10% a year? the it's 40K
It's already 80K for the first year, and other running costs is relatively nothing if you don't track your car very heavily.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

$300k for new one with tax not $400k
Better yet, buy a used 2010 for $200k
Sell it after 3 yrs ownership for $150k
5% return on safe investments not 10%

I thought 5% is very safe, 10% are relatively safe ones

bottom line to me is buying 458 outright and sell in 3-5 years amortizes to about same monthly lease payments as any mb, porsche, etc

I calculate my 458 to cost me about £35k a year.

£25k in depreciation (10,000 miles), and 10k in loss of appreciation on the 5% I could earn on the 200k cash tied up.

As to lost investment opportunity on cash to buy 458-
No one should be 100% invested. Everyone needs cash as part of portfolio so if have cash earning umder 1%, not much of a.lost opportunity

And cannot compare depreciation to not having any car. I compare owning 458 to leasing any other lesser but still high end car that cost at least $1500/month you will never get back

Ferrari Financial Services underwrites their own loans and my dealer told me that the loan through them does not get reported to the credit agencies. With the right financial bona fides, FFS will finance as much as you want at 3.99% up to 7 years.

That's the number FFS offered me. However, i was able to get 3.5% through TDFinance. To me it was worth saving .5% and getting reported to credit agencies. I've been paying principal down in lump sums too. Ymmv.
