Let's say you buy a 328 (perhaps the cheapest to own). For argument, we'll say it is cherry with 20K on it and you paid 50K. Drive 6K miles a year for 5 years. Here is the therotical breakdown: Loss of income from 50K @ 4%/year: 10K Inusrance: 1200/yr 6K Gas $2/gallon 20MPG 3K Anual oil changes (2) DIY w/synthetc .5K 15K service 2K 30K service 4K Misc repairs, maintenance tires, etc. 5K 1 clutch (almost a definite) 1.5K Mileage deduction (car with 50K worth 38K) 12K Total 44K 1.46/mile. 8800/year. If you drive less, as most people do, cost per mile goes up, anual cost goes down. Some things are best left not calculated! Dave
1.00 per mile? i think im going to go out and rip my odometer out of the car , then its FREE !??? or block it up and put it in reverse like ferris beuller did with his....
Man, if I added that up right you spent (including purchase price) almost a half million dollars on that !!!! holy moly. I hope you drove the wheels off of it ! But at 140k miles it looks like you did
I thought I would share my 308 cost to operate expenses so far this year. This should help people who are looking at getting into ferraris, and since my car is considered a very good example and maintained flawlessly this will serve as a reference point as to what the cost of ownership is really like for this cars. (Granted alot of this is nit picky stuff and optional but I like to maint the car to the highest degree, but on the other hand alot of it wasn't optional) $600.00 Insurance (Hagerty premium with extra towing) $50.00 Tag $100.00 PPI- (post receiveing the car, I had a PPI prior to purchase, but after the car arrived here I took it to my mechanic to have him go over the car and fix any potential problems as preventive maint) $400.00 Gas for 20 weeks @ $20 a week $150.00 2 oil chages (2x10 filters, 2x45.00 oil, 2x20 labor) $80.00 Gear oil change (Redline) 6x10.00 quart, 10.00 shipping, 10.00 labor) _________Total for reg. fluid and maint and direct operating cost_____ $1380.00 __________________________________________________ _____________ (Cosmetic upgrades and maint) $25 Wheel cap $50.00 Targa cover fasteners (2x25) $60.00 Stainless covered brakelines $20.00 Gas fill neck rubber mat $120.00 Floormats $110.00 Roof/doors rubber trim $150.00 Repaint exhaust heat cover $50.00 leatherique rejuv oil/cleaner $50.00 leatherique dye $100.00 waxes/polishes/microfiber towels/window cleaner/rubber cond., etc. $125.00 Replace one cracked tailight $40.00 Car show fee ________total for cosmetic upkeep__________ $950.00 __________________________________________________ _________ Repairs/fixes $140.00 Frayed Accelerator cable (60.00 cable, 80.00 labor) $200.00 Frayed Clutch cable (120.00 cable, 80.00 labor) $300.00 Cracked distributor cap ($285.00 cap, $15.00 labor) $150.00 Replace cam cover gasket (100.00 kit, 50.00 labor) I overfilled oil $20.00 Check fuel pressure leakage, adjust idle(was found to be ok _______total for needed repairs/fixes_______________ $810.00 __________________________________________________ _____________ Grand total for 5 months of 308 operating and repairing cost......... $3140.00 Keep in mind that this is my first 6 months owning this car, and some of the items are one time cost to upgrade the car to mint condition. THANKFUL that is almost complete !! __________________________________________________ _______________ As you can see even 308's are NOT cheap to own !! If my car was not a good conditoned car to start with, my wife would have me sleeping in it !!! The miles driven during these 5 months is 2,800 miles (I thought it was more, I'm not driving as much as I thought) $3140.00/2800 miles = $1.12 per mile So the $1.00 a mile is about spot on, if you subtract for the unecess upgrade/cosmetic items.
I suppose I spend an average of $2500 a year to drive my BB512i 5000km or so a year. Most of that goes to the major service every 5 years.
You are scaring me, guys, with repair costs! 01 SL500, 02 C320, and an 03 CL500-total expenditures in 3 years= $456.00! That 997 S Cabrio is looking better all the time! I would have to say that if a Ferrari is a requirement for a trophy wife, there is a big problem! So, the question is really who did get the trophy in that scenario. And, come to think of it, I believe I saw that movie as well! I don't recall any trophy! Are we talking horse races here?
The cost of the cars is minimal.............The 348 has been around 15 years. I've done 3 majors.....2 myself. Most other work I do, so the costs aren't too bad. The F40, TR, 308 and Mondial t cab are about the same. The real cost was the wife that hung around for 3 years(no kids) and stole $500k as a parting gift! I'll buy more exotics...but rent the females!
We got our second car (360) in Jan. of 2005 and it now has over 20,000 miles on it. We take it to the store, work, clients, pick up the boy from school. Its a car that is ment to be driven and enjoyed. Does everything else really matter as long as you are having fun? The only time we do not drive it is if it's raining and we live in southern CA so we do not get much of that at all.
Why calculate? Why scare yourself? I have 512TR and 328GTS and I don't keep count of its costs of maintenance and repair as I do not wanna know. I just love looking at them and enjoy every minute in them. Period!
Annual license registration ~$800 Annual six month insurance with State Farm $750 Maintenance (because the previous materialistic "saving it for the next owner" idiots didn't drive it) .50-$1.00/mile gasoline, based on 16mpg and $2.15/gallon (you can do the math) First speeding ticket in seven years: $220 My first year cost $150,000; purchase, shipment, $7,000 sales tax, all of the above, etc
