for the people that have weighed their cars (not factory #s) what were the results? make model year weight misc. (how much gas? were you in it? etc...)
Lotus Europa 1972 1625 pounds with an unknown amount of gas; no driver. That's why they are such a blast to drive with only about 122 HP (my car; factory spec is 117). Ken
Volvo p1800s 1966 420hp (when I have the motor at full boost) 2000lbs with full tank and me in it (well, I am geting fatter)
Nissan 350Z base model 2003 3,188 lb without me or fuel (with 20 gallons at 6.25 lbs/gal and me it's 3,473)
'96 Maserati Ghibli Open Cup 3,020 wet-full tank, a tad more with me in it. Ok a big f'ing tad. This car needs to go on a diet. Trust me, it's a lot easier shedding pounds from the race car ...
With that kind of power to weight you should go race some sucker with an F40 for pink slips. Just consider: '66 P1800S displacement 1778cc (OHV) horse power 420 hp / liter 236 weight 2000 lbs / hp 4.76 F40 displacement 2936cc horse power 478 hp / liter 163 weight 2976 lbs / hp 6.14 The guys on the dyno must have fainted when they saw that kind of power coming out of that four banger (73 more hp /liter than Ferrari could get)! - George
Ok now that I've had my fun I'll open up myself for a couple jokes: make: Alfa Romeo model: SZ year: 1960 weight: 1805 lbs (incl 8 gal-gas, roll bar, catch tanks, fire extinguisher, etc - about a hundred pounds of stuff) factory dry weight: 1697 lbs (770 kg) horsepower: 130 lbs / hp: 13.05 0-60 mph: yes
The bill of lading completed for my 1960 PF coupe shows 1976 lb for the ride from Bremerhaven to Seattle, probably with gas and no driver. Ed
YeaH! Where are Manny or Rick when you need them... (insert evil laugh) I could use an F40 grocery getter It has 300hp+ from 4000rpm to the 7800rpm redline I am no place near this Volvo motor's power, it will eat just about anything alive. http://www.hilmersson-racing.com/start.asp?show=j My motor is a b234 16v, with a GT40 turbo and Eaton super, arias pistons, crower rods, stroked to 2.6l, yadda yadda yadda... The funny thing is the new block, turbo, super and so on weighs only 100lbs more than the original iron block and heads, plus some metal was removed to accomodate the hardware, so all around I got benefits, but the weight distribution still blows. I havr fiberglass in the cabin and a fuel cell replaced the gas tank. Non of the guages work either. I am losing interest as I do often with this car when it does not run. Traction is not good, and it is right hand drive, and my left hand is truly f'd up, so sometimes I can't grip the shifter Not to mention the tranny I have can't really handle it all, and I have been fighting for almost a year to re-assemble this block. Half the time I want to go out to Muldoons or see the gang, I am covered in oil trying to figure out the problems. here is my previous thread about it: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135170521&postcount=18
Welcome to the 4 cyl. club Put the engine in the rear of an ferrari then you got traction. ________________________ Samy
No weight is not traction if the main weight position is good , over the axel wich is driven by the engine. Also it depends on the wheel some Mickey Thompsons will do a good traction. More weight is only time loss. And ofcorse an 8cyl could be doing more power but the drivetrain is on its limit with an 4cyl and drivetrains / trannys wich are strong enough for double the power are only for the 1/4 mile available. Also it wouldn't get traction with normal track tires on 1200+nm and 1000+hp so i keep the 700+hp/800nm and be lucky. And to the weight, Ferrari 348 348 transmission is alone 122kg 348 engine 201kg 348 car at the beginning 1350kg at the moment i dropped the transmission to 116kg by different clutch, flywheel and bolts plus earising some stuff new engine weights 160kg lighter 355 bumpers out of kevlar carbon. erased doorstakes. erased a/c. carbon seats. small signalhorn. different bumper mountings. Changed some metal housings under the car to plastic. Ecus with cables minimized to 1/3 of the previews weight. Erased some of the second openers on the hood. No fog lights. Light exhaust system. 355 taillight assembly wich is lighter then the 348. Erased side indicators. Some wires and carpets thrown out. No motors in the mirrors. No music. Some relais erased and some relais and fuses wired different to one fuse relais system per unit (f.e. headlights, taillights not for each one an seperate system of fuse relais and wires.) At the moment its 1080kg dry with two seats, but inlet manifold and exhaust header, charger assembly isn't at its full weight at the moment. _____________________ Samy
So they say, I just read the scales during corner balancing. They didn't lighten the car all that much (still has power windows and locks) and the full roll cage added it all back in. Bob S.
