Since this seems to be a major sore spot what does it take to put a clutch in a 25th Anniversary Countach? Price wise as I would have it done. Parts availability etc? How long would one expect a new clutch to last if not driven hard? I have heard it is a big job.

There are quite a few variables (a lot of things that should/could be done at the same time) but you can expect to spend $10K.

It should be good incentive to not try smoking the tires.

Parts are generally available although pressure plates get "back-ordered" from time to time.

If you drive the car sensibly it could last indefinitely.

There are owners here that have owned their car many years and have never replaced a clutch.

I have a Diablo (similar design) in my shop that had a new clutch at 2500 miles (be careful who you loan the car to).

Clutch is a simple thin, pull the engine (5h) remove the gearbox, install the new clutch, put the engine back 6h.

The problem is, how worn is the clutch, are you able to surface the flywheel and pressure plate.
If you need new pieces it's gonna get expensive, when you can surface the plates and reface the clutch disc with new facing it's gonna be cheap, I paid $600 for this.

The bigger issue is all the rest of the work you will do around the clutch job, since once the engine is out you will replace the 20 year old gaskets, hoses etc. the check valve clearance etc.
This will result in another 10-20 hours work plus material, but that's something one should do in every case since it will no more be that easy to work in the engine bay.

Consider my head gasket fix thread for more information what can be done around the engine when it's out:

BTW when you replace the clutch, make also sure you replace all the seal rings at the gearbox, since according to Murphy's law they will begin to leak the other day after you replaced the clutch...

Yes they are as once I paid over $10k for a major done to a Testarossa I had, but I was only interested in the clutch job. By the way that amount of the Testarossa didn't include a clutch change.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that the labor cost to remove and install the engine alone run over $2k. This was actually a few years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's higher now. Something like 18 hours - according to the book.
