As the title says, I was hoping someone with a bit more experience or knowledge in the matter could help me out here. There is a slight chance that I may have the opportunity to acquire one solely for the purpose of sale (as much as I wish I could keep/drive it).

I have already searched fchat and a few other forums. What I have gathered thus far is that they have been going for between $1.7M, $3M, and in one case possibly $6M. Of course, price varies according to model and chasis number, etc.

So is the bottom-line for a low mileage, excellent condition Mclaren F1 about $1.7M?

Prices are ultimately dependant on the condition of the car in question, as well as the features/options that the car has. There's not going to be a traditional Blue Book value on F1s or anything like that. The road cars seem to be selling at or above $1.5M recently based on published sale prices. A clean example with some factory upgrades (larger radiators, better A/C, HID headlights) and complete service history is much closer to $2M now.

There was one F1 road car that changed hands this past year for $1.4M apparently. The person who owned never used it and wanted to get rid of it. In his financial position, he might not be concerned with a few hundred thousand dollars one way or the other and was probably not up to date on current F1 values. There was nothing wrong with that car to justify such a low price - it seems someone made an extremely good buy on it.

Silicon Valley Auto Group has a yellow F1 road car right now (#011). It has somewhat of a storied past, has none of the common factory updates, and is not a perfect car by any means today. It also an asking price in the range of $1.8M, but unfortunately for them it is not a $1.8M car by the standards F1s are judged by. The car's actual value is probably at the lower end of the spectrum as far as F1s go, but I think they paid more than that and were still hoping to turn a decent profit. The car has been sitting there since the beginning of December 2005 with no takers so far.

The special F1 varaints like the LM and GTs are hard to put a price on. I wouldn't be surprised to see them selling for double the price of a decent road car. GTRs are hard to pin down - some are strictly race cars with all the scars to prove it while others have received expensive refits and conversions for road use to make them more usable/desirable. Typically I have seen prices for the GTRs that have been cleaned up and converted about even with standard road car prices.

Which car do you have a chance at purchasing? It's highly likely that I might know things about it that you have missed or simply haven't been told. If you'd prefer to discuss details offline, feel free to send me a PM or an email. Several people here can vouch for the fact that I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to the F1 and that I do a pretty good job of keeping track of the cars with help from some other enthusiasts. Let me know if I can be of help to you. :)

Thank you for the information and invitation. All I know right now is the car is a US-model with very low mileage currently allegedly located in Mexico. I should have more information, including the chasis number within the week. As soon as I find out the specs I will post them here.

    Thanks again

    Erik,
Can buyers of used cars still send them back to the factory to be rebuilt?

Unless something has changed in the past 6 months, the factory still offers the McLaren Customer Care program that allows for refits/upgrades/retrimming of the car from nose to tail by people who know the cars inside and out. Of course these services don't come free, or even cheap for that matter.

Here are scans of an article printed in McLaren's own "RacingLine" magazine that describe the Customer Care program in more detail:

There are 2 F1's located here in south FL. One is a regular road model and is silver, the other is a metallic orange LM.

ohh nooo. Not this again. The "metallic orange LM" is not an LM, its just a highly modified road car with an "LM spec" engine. Silver road car? Are you talking about the car that was at Shelton? If so, thats gone and up here near me (sorta) now :) Off the top of my head, i can't think of any other silver F1's down there.

Chris is right about the metallic orange F1 - definitely not an "LM" regardless of what the sign says - it's a road car, chassis #073. The silver F1 is indeed gone if you are referring to #024 which was formerly owned by Jim Clark and did spend some time at Shelton. That car is now in New York.

There's a green F1 road car in Florida. This is new information that I am hoping to develop further as there are still some questions that remain unanswered about it.

It depends on what you mean by "Overhaul". Do you mean a complete refit or just a service?

be very carefull, a lot of times some exotic car dealers tell you that they have an F1 and make you put some money down and at the end they don't get the car and you have to purchase some other car

fortunately no money has been put down as of yet, but I am growing increasingly skeptical of the alleged F1's existance, especially since it is taking more time than it should to find a chasis # or vin

I'll defend ROLOcr as english is his second language (It's customer Rolo). But I wouldn't have to defend him in person, as he is a big boy and could probably pick a Mclaren F1 up off the ground.......he does wear a Batman costume though.
