What is the lowest voltage needed to start our F8s assuming no bad cells or other battery issues?
It's more about the cranking amperage, but, if under 11.5v you probably will not have what you need to start.
Anything under 11.9 is a dead battery. Will it start the car ? I doubt it . But remember if there is the slightest hesitation of not enough voltage you will cop a LOT of error signals. And if you're unlucky its off to the Ferrari dealership you go to clear them. This thing called a battery is a misery to any F owner but with a new battery and properly looked after on a tender all the time you will forget about battery issues and enjoy your car.
I live in a condo with no access to a plug near my parking spot (so I rarely plug it in). I drive the car at least 1-2 times per week so I've never had an issue. My F8 is only 1 year old though. Am I likely to encounter issues once the battery is 2-3 years old?
I think it is hard to tell as every car and situation is different. My 5 month old F8 failed to start twice and left me stranded at a gas station. All of that happened even with the car being plugged in to the charger 100% of the time when not driven.
with the long delays in shipping now, the cars are sitting at various places more than ever and often away from a charge port for weeks. Take that plus the crap OEM battery, and it is believed that by the time you actually get the car it is basically living on borrowed time.
Hunter – unfortunately, you may eventually experience issues, even for a battery as new as yours. I purchased my 488 new but the factory Fiamm battery was later replaced with a more reliable US name brand. There is a TDF for sale on this forum for +$1MM with less than a thousand miles, but if the next owner of that car experiences any battery issues, holy hell to FNA should be waged if there is a battery issue. I recently had the annual service on my 488 performed, but there was a delay before work was performed and my car was without a battery tender for one week. This resulted in a couple of ECU emission codes which negated the state inspection to pass. Rather than returning the car to the dealership, I futzed around for three hours putting the car through the drive cycle to reset the monitors so the car would pass state inspection. Houston frequently has temperatures 50 ⁰F during winter but I have experienced less than 50 ⁰F many times, resulting in “electronic voltage excursions” which displays an errant code. Los Angeles has more temperate climate, but Toronto??? Despite my frustration, I will never trade my Ferrari (have had three) for any other supercar. Best of outcomes, Andy
Invest in a quality starter. 2 parameters it must have are spark free and reverse polarity protection. Of all people YOU should have one.
I purchased this one as it fit what I wanted in a unit. There are cheaper ones but this one has thicker cables and enough power to start a 6.5 litre engine. Also has the safety features. It comes with a draw string bag but i opted for a proper carry case that I found on ebay. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have the same'ish model and it worked just fine. Took less than 4 min from start to end. Image Unavailable, Please Login
