My 458 has a constant interior rattle coming from the passenger dash area that I just can’t seem to locate. It’s really affecting my enjoyment of the car and driving me crazy, to the point that I’m thinking of selling the car because of it. Am I being crazy?

Not crazy to be super annoyed at the rattle, crazy to sell the car because of it. Rattles can be fixed, it just takes patience (and people who are annoyed by rattles don’t normally have much (I am one of them)) assuming you are half handy Just take the dash and glove box to pieces one piece at a time until rattle stops or you are able to locate the source. Sometimes just the act of taking it all apart and putting it back together does the trick.

I'm the same way, rattles trigger my OCD . I wonder if it's your infotainment box?

I’ve sold many cars due to a rattle that could not be fixed and drove me crazy. My wife says I am absolutely crazy but my OCD would not let me enjoy the car as the rattle was the only thing I could concentrate on.

I remember a clicking noise coming from the dash on my 6 series BMW drove me crazy until I found a TSB to tighten the support bars in engine bay leading to the base of windshield
I would never have guess that would be the issue .. half a turn of a two bolt and it transformed the car ..
    So you are not crazy

Given up 458s beacuse of exactly this. The interior quality is really rubbish. The later models have improved significantly. It really ruins the experience in a way that you think your are driving a f'., Datsun from the 80s.
It is more forgiving and imo ok in more raw models like 360CS and 430 Scud but the 458 series is so refined that you hear all the rattles and noises that should not be there

It would annoy me too. My 458 did in fact have a rattle like this and it was one of the air vent surrounds. Had it fixed and no more rattles.

Right there with you. I’d go to all means to resolve it. Of course I’ve some rattles that ended up being something simple like the passenger seatbelt or the clip rattling from my garage door opener transmitter on the passenger side visor.

I had a rattle in the speaker of my passenger door I could hear on bass. I just got the door cards re glued and while they had the door apart they tightened the speaker assembly. Looks like it was loose bolt with a washer vibrating, now no rattle.

Have someone sit in the passenger seat and listen for the exact location while you drive, try also putting pressure in certain spots to see if it stops. After you have a gauge on it then disassemble that section and tighten everything down also look for anything loose in there, drive it again before reassembling to make sure. It's something loose or a piece not seated correctly, if you really want to fix it you can get it done. There are lots of videos online with steps to take apart the entire interior. Obviously you have to be careful not to damage anything simply because the parts are so expensive but it's still just a car that can be disassembled like any other, we're talking trim pieces here with clips and screws not an engine.

I restored a 97 Land Cruiser recently and had more trouble tracking rattles down in that then I did when I had to fix one in my California, the California was a much easier process actually.

That sounds like leather rubbing against rubber or plastic to me. I would try a silicone-based lubricant.

I have to remove the plastic covering. I wouldn't even know where to start with this. Has anyone ever done this?

That would ruin everything. My 458 had a creak that when I sold the car, I was happy.

If you can get your hands on a 458 shop manual, you will see that it is straightforward. Also, I believe there is at least one YouTube video where someone goes through this.

Would you guys recommend going to a reputable body shop to locate and fix an interior rattle, as opposed to a mechanic?
