I was just curious, what would a domain name like www.ferrariF430.com be worth...?
Are there any legal issues with the fact of using the Ferrari name?

The site owner can offer guidance from whatever experience he can draw from, although:
The prancing horse is a trademark of Ferrari.
You'll note Ferrarichat doesn't use a font with similarities to Ferrari's.

Oh, Ferrari probably wouldn't like it at all if you were trying to profit off the name itself, particularly in light of the fact you have no licensing agreement with them.

    it's a liability.

unless your last name is Ferrari (and you didn't legally change it) and you're selling a widget called "F" that comes 430 to the box --- in that case you're kosher.

in just about every other case, the laws favor ferrari crushing your nuts into a fine paste to get it back.

The money is not in the domain, unless you had Ferrari.com. And that would cause you legal grief as you do not own a corporation in that name. Variations on it seem to be ignored. The money is in hihg hit counts, not hte name and that takes a lot money to do. This is very exoensive to do in search engines because it is determined by how many other links you have to your site. Many, many companies spend $1000's of dollars a month to companies that specialize in getting search priority up. You will have a tough time getting high hit count and that is what make the site valuable and sells advertising. Hope that helps...

Every if your name is Ferrari, you wouldn't have much of a prayer. There is a famous old case involving a guy named Walter S. Taylor. He was the black sheep of the famous Taylor wine family and had a vineyard (in the Fingerlakes, if memory serves) called BullyHill. Sales were not great. He relabelled his wines "Taylor." He got the **** kicked out of him by the then owner of the brand (Coca-Cola had it, so did Seagram's at one point). He then launched a massive PR campaign, articles appeared in the WSJ, etc. lamenting the fact that "one can't even use one's own name in business," "look whats happened to the American justice system," etc.

The cybersquatting law that took effect a few years ago makes the acquisition of famous brands as domain names, for the purpose of extorting money from their rightful owners, a serious piece of legal business. One of the cases that led to it was the "Panavision" case. The guy's defense, after he got nailed trying to sell the name back to the folks that make those expensive Hollywood movie cameras, was that the site was really about a place called "Pana" located somewhere in the midwest. Since his site featured an overhead, aerial photo of the town- hence "Pana-vision" he thought he had an argument.

One is reminded of a Saturday Night Live skit in which Robert Mondavi's step-son tries to use the Mondavi name to sell his own wine. I don't recall the details, but I do remember it being quite hilarious.

Lotus is a low budget outfit for sure but I'm proud that my Mom and Pop outfit has a history and a provenance. It's an impressive run that unfortunately is all in the past.
