Eh. This is a cool thread.

It was a realization I had at 28 that I could buy it, easily. But I didn't. And I still haven't. At this point don't know if I ever will, really.

Time will tell. The realization for me though, was cool. I almost feel like it's just kind of passed though.

Where the market is at, and likely will stay, for the car I've always wanted (360) I'm just not sure it's worth that much. Don't feel a strong enough desire for anything else.

61 but still no Ferrari. Trying to decide between a 2024 911 C4 GTS new build vs. slightly used 2023 Roma.

If I were you I would get the Roma.
But I am a Ferrari addicted and was born in Roma, so I am just a bit biased.

    Ciao.
    How old are you now?
Anyhow go for it and do not look back, because we only live once and you’ll not lose any money.
    Be childish sometime! :)

I didn’t want to be rude, but I can assure you that when you seat inside and drive it, it is a world away from the sofa thinking and balancing and reasoning. Driving the 360 or any other Ferrari is disconnecting your adult brain for a while and bringing you back to your childhood: priceless (for me)!

    Ciao ciao,
    Nic

    36.

It was not long after that I got married, had a kid, bought a house, so many other priorities that really just put that expenditure on the back burner.

I'm just a working-class guy but I do well for myself. I'm sure one day I will make it happen, when the time is right again. Thankfully it's a dream I've always been more than patient with.

I would say it depends on how you plan to use the future toy:
9/10 times when going somewhere in the evening or weekends, I take the Ferrari (it's not a Roma but a 2009 California).
9/10 times when going to a track, I take the 911 (California is better suited for road use than track use)

Had I to choose between the 992 911 and a slightly used Roma (one toy car scenario), I'd go Roma and do less track time or get the Roma then at some point get a considerably cheaper dedicated track car (say $30k).

    V1: Reason is overrated.

V2: On a more serious note: As for the strong market, look at it from another perspective: it's not money lost, it's just money blocked.

A friend that is wiser than I am, when a few years ago (9-10y ago) we were discussing prices of underground parking ownership and I was furious on the absurd prices .. he told me what I am now saying to you: absurd? .. perhaps .. but since the market is not going down .. it's just blocking money .. as you're taking it back when no longer needing it (underground parking or a 360). Sure, a $500k new Roma might hold its value, though most likely you will take a depreciation hit in a few years, however a 360 should provide a more foreseeable depreciation curve (or no depreciation at all).

    Then again, V1 :)

I was 57 .I was always a car enthusiast just not really a ferrari guy. I had a corvette by the time I was 20 and then many other sports cars .
but no interest in Ferrari's mainly cause there were not many in my area.
Then one day I went wiith my friend to Fow he was ordering his 458.
Well during that time I test drove a Maserate Gts and a california
within 2 weeks I owned one of each . Then within 2 years i owned 3 or 4 Ferraris etc.. this was 2010 or maybe2011

Oh, from what you wrote I thought you were like 70! o_O
But I now understand you even better because I’m in a similar situation with a baby etc.
Anyhow I got mine at 44, and my only regret is not to have taken it at 34 at half the price, but I thought that I had no hurry etc.
    Good luck!
    Ciao ciao,

As I recall, I was about nine. Almost 38? I would have thought a bit older. A diamond stud in the ear always reminds me of some friends that were trying a bit hard. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
