I just saw this car at Lime Rock and it looks stunning. The thing is, the engine is stamped as 0666, but i thought it blew up? And also, didn't the body get destroyed in a barn fire? I was under the impression it had the engine from 0724 in it.

    Anyone have any more info?

I have heard many stories about this car for years...Joel Finn had it too. I forget if Griswold was involved with it or not, but I've heard amusing tales about the stewardship of some of these old cars. Didn't Betz and partner own it for awhile too? I am away from my notes on the subject. Wayne? Tellaio? Old guy?

Sorry, don't know enough of the details on this one to open my mouth. The car did belong to Peters/Betz prior to Jon and Mary Shirley, though.

I'm just curious as to why the engine is stamped 0666 and what is original on/in the car...

0666 was restored with another car, right?

Did I ever tell you about the time when I was into old British motorcycles and an old dealer showed me some stamps for, uh, stamping numbers into blank blocks? Not that this is what happened in this case, but you must remember that all this happened a long time ago.

I am well aware of that and this is pretty much the reason for this thread. Is the engine really 0666 or is it 0724 that has been re-stamped?

Yes, Betz and Peters did own the car. It was shown at the Concours on Rodeo Road in Beverly Hills a few years ago. Beautiful car, but I have no idea how much is original parts and how much is replacement parts.
