Hello all. I'm new here and hope to own a 308/328 sometime in the next year or so. I was wondering, would I be being too particular (anal) if I were to exclude a 308 from consideration just because the speedometer only goes to 80mph? Thanks
I would first decide on which you want...308 or 328. If you want a 308, then decide which version you want...early carbed, early injected, or QV. Depending on which one you choose, might take the 80mph speedo out of play anyway. ...and, welcome to FChat!
....plus you can always send your speedometer to the shop in California, Palo Alto, I think, they'll redo it perfectly! You should be very picky about YOUR car, or do as I did, expect to spend a wack to make it like you want. I spent $12,500 on MAJOR service, $13K for new paint and 8K for all new interior. Also got new tires, test pipes and tips. So for around $35K extra, I have exactly the car I really wanted! (1982 GTBi, Nero over Bordeaux, 16" factory rims) The 16s actually came with my car and in the manual they're listed as optional. I am very happy with my car, but I still expect to spend more!!!! YIKES!
I had a 85qv and the speedo went up to 180 and I had it down the road doing 143 passing a vette,so what car has a 80 speedo in it that your looking at? take it out and replace it duhh
85 mph speedo means nothing. Mine before and after. Palo Alto will reface and recalibrate. Looks like brand new and I still have the original miles on it. They will zero yours if you want but I did not think that was a good idea. All 308s are nice to have. Just pick the best one in your budget. Parts and labor are not cheep for a 308 or a 328. Both models have their good and bad points. Research research research. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
One more thing. Yes, I know my lights on the dash are not in the right spots. My mechanic did that. No big deal. Can change them sometime in the future.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm still getting to know the who/what/where of the Ferrari community. It's nice to know someone out there could replace the speedo if that was something I should want to do whenever I finally get a 308.
Make sure it is mechanically sorted before you start working on cosmetic changes and you'll be just fine.
If you have your 80mph face updated by one of these companies, would the actual mileage be more suspect since the miles can be zeroed out at the same time?
Any car can pass any other car. If it's on a public road -- the driver with the least amount of common sense usually wins the race irrespective of the auto he is in. A 1997 Corvette tops out at 176, but where can one do this speed safely and legally? As for how picky: Buying a Ferrari is like any other car purchase -- it's all about identifying what's important to you and addressing/analyzing trade-offs. Make your list of requirements in order of importance then look for candidates.
