Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I was wondering how reliable the 360 Modena F1 was. I heard that Ferrari's used to be very unreliable, but the newer models are the opposite. I was wondering if that was true? Also, I'm interested in a 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 with around 13,000 miles on it. The price is pretty good, but since the car is out of warranty and it's a First year Model, I'm affraid that it could end up being a headache. Any thoughts or advice on this? Thanks in advance for all your help! - KJ
Welcome to FChat. But it would be nice if you fill out your profile a little more. The 360's a pretty reliable car. As long as you have the complete service record of the car in question, and you plan on driving it regularly (very important), it should be fairly trouble-free. Do a search on this site. This topic's been discussed numerous times.
Actually, I believe that 1999 was the first year. You might consider running this deal through a dealer. Ferrari now has an extended warranty program. It is expensive, but all it takes is just one little thing to go bump in the night. Good luck, DrTax
Hey Guys, from what I read on the archives of this and other sites, the main things I would have to worry about is: - F1 Tranny Problems (mainly the clutch) - Cam Belt needs to be replaced every 3 years, so a 2000 model should've had it done already. If not, I would need to get it done right away. Am I missing anything? Thanks, KJ
i own a 2000f1-great car-minor problems-cd did not work -gas gage did not work. it now has 8200 miles -just drove it on 700 mile trip.the only thing i check is the fluids-look for leaks and drive it .by the way all problems taken care of by dealer.i also keep great service records. very important.
The gas gauge problem should have been fixed under a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). See if the previous owner got a letter for the fix and had it done.
I own a 2000 360M 6 speed and the car has been utterly reliable. Only once the check engine light came on and that was due to gas cap not being tight! I think like other cars you have to be cognisent of its behaviour and be alert for rattles, smokes, and engine sounds that are abnormal, and take care of tehm before they becomes major issues. I have over 16K and all service has been performed at the dealer. Two and half set of tires, set of brakes, set of clutch, set of belts and the usual fluid changes once a year. It has never let me down on the side of the raod.
The original battery is less than stellar. At the age of your car, if it hasn't been replaced yet it will likely need to be. Also, if a 6 speed, beware of a bushing issue in the throughout bearing assembly. A check of the applicable history of your car should clarify this.
Hi Matt - How did you determine it was the gas cap? My CEL just came on, the car runs fine, so I re-checked the gas cap and was able to tighten it a bit more. How loose does it have to be to cause a light? If that was the cause, does the CEL clear itself? After how long? I don't want to get involved with getting the car to FoSF if I can avoid it. Gary
2000 360 F1 with 11K miles. Other than servicing, I have had to change the battery once; now I use a tender for it. No reliablility issues at all, knock on wood. steve
Gary, This has happened to my BMWs and my 996 several times. I had the 360 smogged at Los Gatos and when I went home and took the car out for the ride again, right in the middle of downtown Menlo Park, the car started spottering at the light and eventually CEL came on. I pulled over and the first thing I checked was the gas cap and sure enough it was loose. I saw Flavio test it while smogging it at Los Gatos and figured he knows better than leave it loose, but I guess not! I guess there is a vaccum leak that ECU monitors and turns CEL on. It takes three drive cycles to get clreared. On the third or 4th drive got cleared and left no faults to be read on the SDII. Matt
Some info in http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6155 Newer Ferraris are perhaps more reliable than older models, but I don't think we're getting anywhere close to Lexus/Toyota/Audi league in terms of reliability and quality. JDPower does not rank Ferraris (yet) so we'll have to rely on qualitative fbks ...
