The car (85 QV GTS) has no apparent suspension issues I can detect, but with 80K miles approaching fast, and a fuel hose change-out planned, I'd like to do any necessary suspension work at the same lay-up.

Check to see if bushing have puckered at all. Jack car (or let down on lift) and see if it settles on the suspension evenly. Should smoothly drop down on each shock.

i had to have a tie rod end replaced ,,,when my car was in for the last 30k,,the mechanic found the right side tie rod end to be loose,,,i wasnt able to tell from driving the car,,,even flying around corners felt ok.,.well i should also say that the car sometimes felt like it was drifting from side to side on the freeway,,i thought that it was due to cold front tires,,,now that the tie rod end was replaced,,,the car does feel more planted on the freeway...as far as my shocks go,,,i got to tell you,,,at 88k miles,,,the cars still grips well,,,with no body roll,,,i know that the tires have some contribution to this, but the shocks still feel the same as they did 12 years ago...i do realize that at some point in the future,,,ill replace the shocks,,,because even though things still feel good,,the shocks do have wear on them,,and there most definetly will be an overall improvment in handling with new shocks on the car,,,

For me the first indication that I needed some suspension work primarily was the fact that the car just didnt feel right. At lower speeds it seemed fine, however, at higher speeds the suspension felt very loose, light and unstable. The car tended to dive into corners and even at highway speeds I didnt feel as if I had control of the car especially when I would hit an imperfection in the road. Not a good feeling. Once I got everything apart, it was very apparent what the issues were. The steering rack, tie rods, ball joints and suspension bushings were all worn out.
