I have a 98 355 spider I just bought and with the roof down cannot get the tonneau cover to cover it. I can snap it all down on one side but then cannot pull it far enough on the other side to get all the snaps done. This car's top did not work, so I made it manual to put it up and down, and it looks like it is retracted all the way, so I don't think that is the trouble. I am not sure if the tonneau cover is original or aftermarket, any way to tell? Trying to make it fit is beginning to scuff the canvas top fabric. I am wondering if any car or boat upholstery shop can make a custom one that is a bit oversized. Should tonneau covers be this difficult? Thanks!

As silly as it may sound put it in your dryer for a couple of minutes and let the heat expand the fabric a little.

If its a leather cover, it may need some suplleness brought back to it.

I had to soak mine with LEXOL leather conditioner and put in a plactic garbage bag and cover it tight. after a couple of day, I put it in the sun and then everything is fine.

The trick is to start with the rear two snaps, then the snaps behind the seats, then the two side snaps and fish off with the last two snaps at the top rear.

Whn I'm not suing the cover, I keep it inside the house where its warmer and also keep it inside a bag so the leather does not dry out.

With a small amount of pulling my cover fits very snugly. Are you sure the roof's fully down?

slightly off topic but did you need to do anything to the mechanism in the top other than remove cylinders to make it manual?

Im at my wits end with my POS top never working for more than a day at a time. i want to make it manual.

back on topic.. my cover is very tight but as someone else said.. start with the back two snaps then go behind the seats..that usually works fine.

I understand your predicament ! I had to always snap one side down then really pull very hard to get the opposite side to snap . I always left the ones behind the seats till last , and really pulled down on them to get them to snap. It's really a pain in the posterior , unfortunately .
