    He just drifts forward a bit. A mag check and run up doesn't take that long and a bay is the length of the ocean. Lakes are a bit tighter, but then he just does it while positioning himself into wind.

    Sure. Nuthin' to it. Just watch where you're pointed and run it up. Doesn't take that long anyway

    Turn into the wind and align with your take off path - Stick/yoke full back, water rudders down, run -up to recommended rpm's. With stick full back the floats plow ahead a short distance- then full power, water rudders up, ease stick forward and you're off

    Hey, you can always do the mag check after you're airborne. Don't ask how I know this.
