How to clear caches on my iMac?

Hi guys, this past 2 days, my iMac OS X 10.5.8 has been giving me a few issues.

1) It takes a long time sometimes for the account/password box to come up when i wake the Mac up from sleeping mode

2) I'm having issues with Google Chrome, which is the first time. When i launch the Chrome, nothing comes out on the welcome screen. Normally, it's the most frequent website i visit, i.e Ferrarichat.com, Facebook, etc. This time, nothing. And when the pages does comes up, and i click on it, the rainbow wheel appears, and nothing happens. Nothing. It's the like Mac just freezes. I have to manually use the Command+Alt+Esc button to force quit the applications.

My space was pretty limited, about just 40Gb left. I cleared and transferred my stuff, and right now it's 135.08 Gb left on the hard disk.

Yet the problem still persists. Especially the Chrome issue. Is it because of the caches on the Mac? If so, how do i clear it? Thanks!

 

Probably not a cache problem from what you are describing. You need to run Disk Utility and choose Repair Disk. Go to Finder to look under Applications for the Utilities folder and look in that folder for Disk Utility. Backup first!

 

Also make sure to do "repair disk permissions" while in disk utility, that solves a lot of problems.

Without wishing to hijack the thread, my old G4 laptop is taking *forever* to boot. But, when I run disk utility the "repair" option is unavailable - I can "verify", but not repair. Any ideas?

So far, the computer is doing ok. I'll clear the caches this weekend, since I'm off. But I do think I need to upgrade the ram and also because there's so much of blue ray movies stored in there. Ian, I'll ask some advice from my cousin, since he used a G4 for a few years a while ago.
