I have a 1982 308 which I converted to a Pertronix 8 cyl Distributor, it puts out a tach signal that looks like a V8 now, the original Marelli ignition had 2 four cylinder distributors instead of one 8 cyl distributor

can anyone suggest a simple circuit or aftermarket product that will convert the pertronix V8 tach signal to a format that will work with the OEM Ferrari tach ?

    thanks

    Andy

Mine has both pertronics pick ups in one distributor but still uses both coils and works exactly like the two distributor ignition. I just hook the tach pickup to either coil and it works fine.

Nicks Forza Ferrari includes a tachometer signal converter in their Electromotive XDI kits for the 308, to have the XDI drive the stock tachometer. You could give Nick a call for details, see if their converter box would be appropriate for a Pertronix, and if they would sell the converter standalone from the XDI kit.

I found this below on Eng-tips. There is a guy in Portugal selling a converter for £32 on eBay.

If you need exactly a divide-by-two, you could attempt to do a little circuit - RC filter into a transistor or comparator - and then into a flip-flop configured to divide-by-2 - and then into a transistor (level-shift) into your tach. However, this will take a little playing around, some basic electronic knowledge, and possibly a scope to do it.

That’s a lot of kit for a relatively simple task.
