I am getting ready to hardwire my V1 to the overhead courtesy light but would like to hear the best sequence of disassembly from the experienced first.
    Thank you, DJ

The interior light on the GTS just pops out, and then you'll have access to the wiring that you can link into. Pop it out, then run a short piece of wire that has the proper RJ11 (phone-jack) on the other end under the black vinyl centerpiece piece near the sun visor and fish one end of it through the hole where the interior light came out. Then wire it to hot and ground and you'll have an unswitched wire ready to plug into your V1.

*DON'T* just use a spare piece of telephone cord -- you have to know the way the V1 plugs are wired.

Agreed, it is THAT easy. Use the cord with the V1 as MC said and if i may add... MAKE SURE you have the fuse within the positive power line as well. The fuse is there to protect the unit.

As MC said, it is simple and easy. The real 'problem' is Instant On radar and Laser :(

Meaning, I MUST use the RJ11? Is that how I determine I have the correct one? Where is the best place to get one? The V1 people or will Radio Shack have it?

Thanks for the information Mike. This will eliminate the dangling cord from the rear view mirror......................

The RJ11 is the "phone jack" plug that goes into the V1 already. You probably got two of them with your unit. Just canibalize one of them, or if you're going to use the "splice" unit they provide for hardwire setup, you'll just need to cut it so you can feed it through, and then solder the wires in the two halves back together.

If you want spares, you'll need to get them from the V1 folks, because unlike regular phone cords, their wires aren't straight-through but are twisted pairs.

Wow! After spending a month installing the sound system wiring the radar detector was actually fun and easy. A first on this car.
    Thanks again.
