I purchased a 2008 F430 with limited previous paperwork. I negotiated the price down because of that (and a good PPI). I am pretty sure the exhaust system is not stock. Is there a way to examine the system to tell without having to tear things down?
    Thanks.

Look down at it and you will clearly see a stock muffler with a ferrari # on it or a different brand.

See if you can get a photo alongside your exhaust manifold or header system.. That is the usual thing that is changed aftermarket replacement headers. eg Fabspeed Tubi or Kline or Capristo. These are the usual suspects but there may be others. The OEM headers were a weak point for cracking and most have been replaced. They are a danger to the engine if the pre cat that is integral to the OEM cracks or disintegrates as the pieces can get blown back into the cylinders and ruin an engine.

I submitted photos of my headers, as I was in the same situation as you and the collective wisdom identified the system by the photograph. I had a Fabspeed header system that has a characteristic 4 pipe into one pipe type collector and that was correct. When the bottom undercarriage pan comes off, you can usually identify the headers, exhaust by nameplates that are welded on to the product. A Ferrari Muffler is Stainless steel box in the extreme rear of the engine compartment with Ferrari stamped all over it. My setup was headers, original main cats and original muffler & tailpipes Rear O2 sensors were removed and there are no CEL's so far and I am happy with the sound and performance. The one thing I am unsure of is whether or not the ECU's were retuned or flashed to accommodate the new headers that were installed prior to my ownership.

I will remove the undercarriage pan. I purposely got the 2008 because they supposedly upgraded the headers. That said I will look for stampings.
    Thanks

2008 has improved factory headers, but can still fail

The ferrari manifolds have heat shrouds around the pipes, aftermarket ones are usually plain pipes
