Many OEM parts are not made by the original manufacturer, but are instead made by the OEM suppliers. So if you can figure out who that is, you can purchase OEM parts from the supplier instead of from the manufacturer and by doing so, save a ton of money.

So my question is, how? How do you figure out who the OEM supplier is/was for each of the the various regular maintenance items on the Ferrari 308 and the Ferrari 458?

Welcome - for the older cars much of the work is already done with dedicated threads - for the newer it is less easy as items seem to be more model-specific

Not too sure how the value or operability of a modern car like a 458 would be affected by self-maintenance combined with generic parts

Thanks for the reply. and that makes good sense regarding dedicated threads for the 308. Thank you. You mentioned value and operability being effected by using generic parts. but I wasn't referring to using generic parts. I am specifically referring to the process of researching who actually makes the OEM parts and then purchasing those OEM parts not from Ferrari but from the actual manufacturer of the OEM. In other words, the process of finding out who Ferrari buys their parts from. An example is Nip and Denso making a ton of OEM parts for Toyota. Buy a fuel pump from Toyota and pay a lot for it. Buy the exact same Nip and Denso pump from anywhere else and you won't pay nearly as much for it.

Alot of the time OEM suppliers have exclusive contracts with the OEM and aren't allowed to sell it direct. Other times they just can't be bothered to sell it direct.

Exactly its in the PO T&C's....No can Do
Ferrari "Service Parts" obligations, are significantly different as compared to the standard T&C's laid out by mainstream OEM's for high volume vehicles
Service parts obligations run for a shorter period of time, less then 10 years vs the norm of 20 years
Can you imagine holding large complex Ferrari tooling for 20+ years and the associated costs behind storing and maintain them for very low volume production cars? Its all about the costs...This is why parts go NLA quick

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer who could used OES Original Equipment Supplier. They built original part

Also IAM : Independent Aftermarket Manufacturer. They built aftermarket part

    BUT……..

A company xxx could built OEM parts to Ferrari AND IAM parts for Lamborghini for example.
