I have a couple questions on how to drive this car.

I have a GTI that was converted to carb.

Does any one know what the sweet rev that this car should be driven?

It look's like it loves to be around 3000 - 4000
    The red line is 5000

I noticed a nice power from 3600 on up.
Are these engine designed to be reved up.
Should I never go past 4000 RMP

My car is an original, un-molested patina wagon. It had 47K kilos on the clock when I obtained it from a 20+ year slumber (stored outside!). The carbs were dismantled, and in the trunk, as was the distributor, and the radiator; I was taking a big gamble when I purchased it.
After sending the carbs out to Pierce for rebuild ( I was afraid of the carbs then, but not now), and replacing all the hoses, I managed to get the car running. Upon hearing the timing chain slapping the head, I replaced that, and adjusted the valves (all with patient guidance from Eugen O.)
My engine is still un-molested, the vibration dampner seems petrified (the rubber), and it is an old, un-rebuilt engine. I have the 5 speed. I try not to over exert my car, but baby it in a spirited manner. It cruises happily at 3000rpm, and I try not to keep it over that. If I was a wealthier man, or had another car in the back ground, and this engine was fresh, and known; I would venture well past this.
