Cool video. Just not sure how you did all that without beer and some Rock music playing.

 

Thanks for making all these videos! I skimmed through them before I bought my car a few years ago to see how involved the servicing really is. Your lead-off line "welcome to my nightmare!" on your cam belt change part 1 still makes me laugh. This new video will surely come in handy when I attempt my first major next winter.

 

I really liked the idea of the two plastic bins, filled with water, in the trunk. Nice fit!

Wow that is a ton of work, now I know why I will pay someone to do it! LOL
I am in awe of you guys who do this yourself.

 

The video is just under an hour long. So figure an hour to pull the engine, say half an hour to change the timing belt and an hour to put everything back in. Not that bad

I really appreciate the effort that goes into these videos. The photo threads of the same process are really helpful, too, but there's a lot of additional helpful hints and visual information passed on through the video format that's missed in still photos.

I sat through all the fluids draining and nuts/bolts/clamps unfastening; it really looks like this engine drop was all done in less than a couple hours.

 

Not a chance.

I would say at least 6 hours, I believe it took about 8-10 hours when we did mine. But, it was our first time, and we took our time and made sure we were extra careful

 

Consider yourself a true professional if you can get a 348 engine out in 6 hours.

 

Thanks for setting me straight (again), people. Every time someone posts up an engine-out tutorial, I'm get delusional about doing it myself in record time. I need to keep being re-grounded before I start something I regret.

 

I hope to do my first engine-out some time down the road. I can't imagine taking less than a month total to complete everything. Working only on weekends, documenting a lot, waiting on parts I realize I'll need after getting the engine out etc. Getting things cleaned-up, maybe sending out some parts for plating.

Of course it helps if you have enough garage space to work slowly and you live in place with bad winter weather so you don't feel rushed to get it back on the road!

 

I'll be the opposite. I plan on doing the bare minimum of a belt change (maybe waterpump) because mine has years, not miles. And I'll do it during the short period of good weather we have up here since I don't have indoor space to take advantage of our long season of bad weather.

 

I hear you. That's a whole different ball game if you can't do it indoors.
