My question now, is how to fiberglass the tub to the sills, as no clue. Remember? Dino in boxes, and sills that were sieves.

I found rivets on the sides of the tub near the sill on both L & R sides, so I assume that a strip goes over it and is riveted to the tub for a bit more beefiness, if that's a word applicable to Dinoland.

In the photo, the rivets are very worn out due to the sanding for the strip, and kind of hard to see.

As the sills will be upholstered, would the strips go up the sills, or just an L shape? Or?

    Thank you.
    Regards, Alberto

    Alberto,

The fiberglass strip is placed along the 90 degree bend where the steel sill and fiberglass floor meet. In other words 1/2 of the strip is on the vertical steel sill and 1/2 is along the fiberglass floor.

To be totally authentic be sure to drink plenty of wine and install the strip with your left hand (if right handed) and with one eye closed. That should replicate the factory quality nicely.

That sounds perfect. I just have the right person to do this...me!
Would you then rivet the vertical to the sill and to the tub as it was, at least at the tub?

I remember that only the base was riveted down and there were no rivets on the vertical surfaces of the side sills. The fiberglass strip merely acts as a 'sealer' between the corner where the vertical and the horizontal meet.

It is also interesting to note that the fiberglass was installed by the factory and painted black once it was all sealed together with the strips of fiberglass. That is to say that to be totally correct, all of the fiberglass should be installed unpainted, then glassed together, and finally painted black. Not that anyone could ever tell the difference but that is the order in which it was done over in Italy.

I am assuming "Dynamat" was totally out of the question in the days, right?
Obviously a flunking point with "Classiche certification"...;-)

I am adding a few rivets on the vertical to assure a slightly better adhesion to the side of the sill. I don't think it will hurt and possibly a tad less delamination issue.

    Regards, Alberto
