    ebay.

Screens without controllers can be found for cheap. That's what you need, I guess.

Not in my experience.... unless he lucks out and finds the exact right screen in a surplus lot.

William, you will need to get the correct part number screen for your laptop. From Sony or an authorized repair outlet its probably over $1,000 for the screen. If you luck out and find one on eBay its probably $400-500 I would guess.

Its probably better just to trash the laptop unless its almost new.

    (it actually runs solitaire)

Take Mike's advice, or... get a new one. You can always send it in for repairs: ~$179 + parts. Estimate you'll shell out 800-1200 to get it fixed by them. Worth it to you? The data can still be spared.

Bound for the round file, just get a new one. It's not worth the extra repair costs.

I had the same problem w/ my kid's Vaio.

Sony wasn't that helpful, which I could understand. They want you to buy a new one, even though the computer was 2 years old. (in real time)

If your HD data isn't that important, you can just sent it out to fix the screen, but I recommend to back it up just in case something happened during transferring the lap top. Repair people usually don't take any responsibility for your data, anyway.

Considering hustle for sending it out, the cost, and time w/out a computer, we ended up buying a new laptop at Fry's.

Sorry William, I did the same thing. A new laptop was cheaper than the replacement screen for my Toshiba. I turned it into a desktop for a while and then tossed (I mean responsibly recycled) it.
