Not that I'll ever be in a position to buy a future 'Super Ferrari', but I'm curious about something - when there's only going to be 349 / 399 / whatever of a car made, how does Ferrari choose who's going to be offered the chance to buy one? For, if nothing else, it's obvious that it's Ferrari that does the choosing, rather than people expressing their interest. So would any of the lucky Enzo / F50 owners on the forum care to disclose how they gained membership of this exclusive inner circle? Is it any if the following:

    - Buying a certain number of cars brand new from official dealers?
    - Personal connections to the Ferrari hierarchy?
    - Being a high profile and enthusiastic celebrity Ferrari owner? (Jay Kay of Jamiroquai seems to have successfully canvassed in public for his Enzo invite, based on his reputation as an owner and user of his other Ferraris.)
    - Having purchased privateer racing cars from the factory?

Here's two more, related questions: again, completely irrelevant, but I appreciate the chance to ask such things!

    - If someone who was offered the chance to purchase, for example, an Enzo, declined the opportunity, would this prejudice their chances of being invited to buy the next super Ferrari?
    - Does Ferrari impose any conditions on buyers, such as suggesting that they shouldn't be used for magazine comparison tests, or that they shouldn't be resold for profit etc? (If there are any such conditions, and if they're subsequently broken, obviously Ferrari couldn't do much to prevent owners doing what they want with their private possessions. But, would the factory ostracise such people by not inviting them to buy their next 'special' creation?)

From what I've been told by the owner of one of the most important collector/dealers in the USA, there are well over 1000 people on "the list".

Ironically, this well known collector/dealer turned down the Enzo he was offered.

    Its :

    Being a multiple Ferrari owner
    Active withing the Ferrari community

But i have read that some Enzo owners werent any of the above..so its just another Ferrari arbitrary decision.

I'm sure it's who you know and how important you are. If you can buy it but there are 100 other people in front of you who can buy it and who have more influence/connections/clout/etc., naturally it would go to them.

Imagine you're building an exclusive product. Wouldn't you do the same? Yeah, you would.

Be a very wealthy and close friend of Clementina. That'll probably get you on the list. :)

Correct me if I am wrong... But I think to be on the list you needed to be an owner of the F50 or the F40 or other significant Ferraris. Once and if you got the car from the factory you could not re-sell it for a 2 year period. After the 2 year period was up you were free to sell it.

I am not sure though

I'm also not aware of how exactly they choose the owners-to-be of a new limited edition, but one thing I know is that you always see the same names appear when it comes to having them.
Wealthy collectors or enthusiasts seem to be very high on the "recommendation"-list.

Eddy (VERY sure not to be on that list :D)

Every franchise submitted a list of who they considered worthy and why. From those lists Ferrari rendered it down to the required number. Some turn the cars down so they go to alternates. I also know of one that went to an individual who considered himself worthy when no one else did. He threatened to sue. He is the proud owner of an Enzo as a result.

I still smile when i read about this list . I know there is one but when you saw Enzos poping up for sale in Europe and the US a few months after delivery with no mileage it makes you wonder about the validity of the list..

Damn, it would be nice to be on that list.. basically its like a permit to print money. The Enzo was sold for what? $650K or whatever, now they are over $1.2MM? and i believe the 599 is fetching $200K over sticker, F50s are still pricey. I soooooooooooooooooooooo want on that list!

The problem being you need to have $650k to start with, and hold onto the Enzo for a bit. As far as the 599s and such go, that's a dealers call.

1.2 wasn't crazy when they were just resold, but now that's pushing it. Seems like 850,000-1 million is the market right now.

I wonder how certain get on the list, ie. rappers. They obviously have no idea about what Ferrari truly represents, they don't drive them, and then they to "bling" them by putting new rims on them.

The Ferrari Galleria Musuem in Maranello was recently expanded and now has a large section devoted to celebrity owners, including movie stars, rappers, jazz musicians, rock stars, classical musicians and other celebs. Celebrity ownership is a key marketing strategy for Ferrari as it costs them nothing to select a celebrity for a preferential place in line and they then get all of the publicity that ensues whenever the celeb is seen in his Ferrari.
