    Hopefully helps identify each model.

365 GT4 2+2 all manual gearbox carbueretted three tail lights

400 automatic gearbox carbueretted 2 tail lights front chin spoiler

    400GT manual gearbox carbueretted "

400i automatic gearbox fuel injected " + badge on back

400GTi manual gearbox fuel injected " + badge on back

Not sure about 412 markings though I know they have a badge 412 on the back and have a higher tail/boot.

Ferrari used the GT to denote manual gearbox.

412s just have "412" regardless of transmission. They also have a bigger front spoiler and body-coloured bumpers, flat-faced alloys plus ABS brakes. Lots of differences inside too, of course.

Soungs good to me but want to get 100% confirmation that a ferrari 400 series with a manual gearbox is always a GT. An automatic would not be designated as a GT. Does the 412 have any GT designations to your knowledge.

    Yep
    100%

A 400 is always bar none an automatic.
    A 400GT is always a manual

A 400i is always an automatic
    A 400GTi is always a manual.

The 400 and 400GT were the carbueretted earlier model

The 400i and 400GTi were the fuel injected later model,

for your site I suggest you have a seperation to avoid confusing these two models.
    Regards
    Alastair

Well lets be careful here. A 5-speed injected 400 does not have any badges or anything on the car that says "GT"

Correct, just to confuse us Ferrari when listing and refering to that manual variant it was always referred to as a 400Gti even though there was no badge saying so, the badge just says '400i'

I would have called it a 400i automatic or a 400i manual but alas Ferraris choice was 400i and 400GTi

Also, to add a little more confusion some 365 GT4s have the two tail light configuration like the 400s.

And as if that isn't enough there is always the differences between Series 1 and Series 2 400's :D

    So in essense you have
    • 365 three light models
    • 365 two light models
    • 400 Series 1 carb'd cars 5-speeds
    • 400 Series 1 carb's auto
    • 400i Series 1 cars 5-speeds
    • 400i Series 1 auto
    • 400i Series 2 5-speeds
    • 400i Series 2 autos
    and so on

Perfect, it's all starting to make sense. Alastair had pointed out some GT corrections on the registry which I will fix.

I am going to put up the fact about the GT's on the Did You Know part of the Registry. Dave had shared some differences with me on Series 1 and 2 cars and this is what I have right now. If anyone could add some detail or any others differences please list them. I am going to put this info up on the Registry as well. My car is a Series 1.

1 Seats are different. Series 2 has a more "puffy" type seats
    2 Front Grills are different
3 Center console is changed between series 1 and 2
4 Dash instruments updated on series 2
5 Steering wheel change, I think a series 2 is all leather. My car has an aftermarket steering wheel.
6 Rear suspension changed on 1 to 2
    7 Outside mirrors are different?????
8 Fuse box in different place. My car has it in the glove box??????
9 Headliner changed. My car has dome light at the front of headliner??????
    10 Door locks changed

Dave also shared with me on a GT car the indicator lights on the dash or reversed or flip flopped. Let me know if anyone can expand or has other differences.
