After my gearshift broke (no, I'm not kidding!) I purchased a replacement shaft. I broke the old retaining bushing while trying to remove it from the old shaft. After waiting FOUR MONTHS for a new one Ferrari of Beverly Hills refuses to do the install unless I tow in my car even though the part is removed from the car as you can see in the photo. Does anyone know the "proper" procedure for installing this retaining bushing on the 355 shifter shaft? I'd hate to break this one as well!

Thanks in advance for the help!

There is no big secret; they get brittle with age so the new one will be less prone to breaking. You can also heat the new one a little in a warm oven. If you have taken the mechanism apart yourself you will have no trouble putting it back together. Be careful when re-fitting the dowel pin - that's the tricky bit as it's got to be lined up exactly with the slots. Best of luck!
