One of my customers installed a custom in-dash computer in his Boxster S. It cost him about $1500. Granted it has an internet connection and navigation, but if all you need is music, you might be better off just getting an Apple iPod and hardwiring it into your car.

iPod cradle w/Pioneer Premier headunit. Done.

No uploading.. just seamless transition from radio and CD with unlimited portability.

Clarion also makes some car PC kits, but I think thats a little extreme for what you want.

Another stuff you may want to look into is the new Toshiba Gigabeat. It automatically rips the tunes to mp3 and uploads them to the Gigabeat. Then all you need in an Aux input and some device to hold the Gigabeat thingie where you want it in your car.
