How can I keep my drivers floor mat from slipping around ? I bought some velcro but I'm afraid it won't have enough hold strengh ? Can I place a screw in them near the gas pedal to keep it from slipping/depressing it ?
I've used some of that "non-slip" carpet stuff you get at Home Depot. It's like a rubberized mat (very thing) that you can trim to shape. Try that stuff... it's cheap. -Daniel
my floor mats are a tight fit they actually are a tad too long, but they have a trimed edge so there's no way I can cut them down), so I need something that will really hold them down. Is there any reasons not too place a screw in the floorboard ?
I used Velcro in my previous 308 and 328. Just apply a foot long peice, running left to right on the rubber mat part in the driver's side. Attach the corresponding peice to the under side of the mat. That's all. Worked great.
Pull up some of your carpeting and look at the condition of the floor boards. In my car (and certainly my leaky 348 doesn't represent the whole Ferrari universe), there is no rust -- but there's lots of scum and smooge. For me, I just wouldn't want to introduce anything new into that metallurgical concoction.
Be VERY careful about drilling holes in the floor, in some cases the brake lines and fuel lines are right down there. I got tired of the mats on my 348 constantly getting pushed forward, so I finally took an old plastic carpet protector, like you use under an office chair, and cut it to match the mat, and siliconed it onto the bottom of the mat. With all those pointy spikes on the bottom, that mat isn't going anywhere! Image Unavailable, Please Login
my car doesn't have a carpet under the mats just a thin black liner type material, is this normal ??? that why my mats slip so much it's basically laying on the metal floorboard.
Simple -- 9" nails. Sheet metal screws. The gallon size of SuperGlue. Seriously, I've used the double-sided carpet tape stuff that Daniel was talking about on the back of floor mats and it works pretty well.
OK, this may sound odd, but my car came with little alligator-mouth-like clips that attach to the seat tracks and prevent slinding forward. Until this post I had always assumed they were OEM? Carl
No, not normal. The "floorboard" as you refer to it is actually fiberglass (at least it was in my 78 308). Attached to this should be a thin carpet that matches the carpet on the door sills and sides that has a rubber insert where your heels rest. A similar carpet is used in the passenger side. As the cars get older, and these get worn, they are often tossed out, and new mats purchased. The mats should go OVER the original ones...but I find in many Ferraris the original ones are long gone. Check Ferrari UK and the parts section of the Ferrari Owner's Site for pictures, and prices of replacements. But note that if you buy a replacement, it will not match due to fading.
I used the ~2" wide velcro. A hook strip along the seat end of the mat, & a loop strip on the floor. When I get carpets to go under the mat, the mat's hook strip should grab the carpet's loops just fine. Will just need to put a hook strip on the new carpet to match the floor strip.
When Ferrari UK was having a sale on some of their 'left over/one left' items, I purchased a set of factory floor mats. They, too, had the "alligator-mouth-like clips that attach to the seat tracks and prevent sliding forward." They're factory.
I used 2 Tenax fasteners with the washered male posts bolted through the carpet, lined up with the front of the seats
In my TR I anchored the mat using the two front bolts that secure the driver's seat tracks to the floor, through two holes in the back edge of the mat. My floor mats are just slightly longer than stock, so this has worked well for me. No way it will EVER move....
Speaking of floor mats - anyone know of a good supplier - i would like to get a set with the Ferrari logo for my TR ?
I can get these for a TR, if you're interested drop me a PM: http://ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=261180
