when a clutch is going on a F1 car, what would you notice while driving? New to the F! cars and only had the car for a day... I know the dealer can tell what's left on a clutch, but just wondering what it would do or not do while driving

Search the forum, many discussions on this topic.

From what others have posted you will experience, i.e. increased engine RPM without acceleration, and the transmission unexpectedly shifting into neutral.

Jerky take offs from a stand still (no matter how many people tell you that you need to learn how to gently accelerate), having the car slip out of gear during driving, and the $30K computer telling you that you are getting close to needing a new clutch -understand that it is possible to "trick" the computer to saying that there is "90%" remaining when actually there is only 20%.

A few factors to know when a clutch is at the end of its life besides the SD2 print:
-the car will not engage the clutch fully at 1100-1200 rpms ( it will engage much higher and can be corrected by adjusting PIS)
-the car will start to engage neutral when shifting especially at higher rpms. the tcu does this to prevent any damage because the clutch is beyond pis. once the car engage neutral on an up or down shift it will likely occur more frequently if the vehicle is kept driven.
-from a 40mph in 4th gear, go wide open throttle and if the engine spins very quickly but the car is not moving in similar reference then you know the clutch is definitely slipping

Also you will want to check the transmount when having the clutch replaced. F1 cars are more noticeable when the mount is torn and worn out because when shifting at higher revs, the back end of the car will feel as if its moving with each new upshift.

The clutch wear % is only a reference in the tcu. People with the correct diagnostic computers can go into the tcu and clear the wear % even though the clutch was not replaced. So you can't always go off that number if you don't have prior knowledge of services. Depending on how the car was driven, a typical F1 clutch will last 10-12,000 miles. Some can extend the clutch life much longer while others (by putting larger rear wheels) will decrease the clutch life much more rapidly. I've seen one go in 4,000 miles with 20" front and 22" rear wheels.

Why would larger wheels cause faster clutch wear?
(Assume keeping the overall diameter to fit in the wheel wells and not upset the ABS.)
