The Capristo system utilizes the factory bypass valve which is present just behind and near the top of the muffler can. All the various level Capristos sound pretty much the same, when on the bypass valve, the difference is when the exhaust is going through the main muffler can...then a level 1 is quieter.

Here is a Level 1 and as you can seen at WOT it is very loud:

I love that video! My capristo level 3 with the Fabspeed headers is a bit louder but essentially sounds the same. Thanks for that video post.

Try the search function, I have a couple threads. Capristo makes a replacement valve, which I installed on my car.

Here is a photo of the OEM bypass valve......the two yellow arrows show both parts, the left showing the area that opens and closes a butterfly valve allowing exhaust to exit the Y pipe to the muffler. The right arrow shows the part that houses the diaphragm which uses vacuum pressure to open the butterfly. In this photo, you will see the Fabspeed Y Pipe that I installed, replacing the OEM Y pipe. The engine runs much cooler with the absence of the OEM.

I have to admit, I am skeptical of the info you got. I have the same designation on mine (1/3) and I believe mine to be level 1. I have always heard that the difference between levels 1, 2, and 3 is the bypass CLOSED sound. Mine has a huge discrepancy - and that may be its only drawback. When the valve is closed it is very quiet. When open, it screams like a banshee and there is no middle ground.

If what they are telling you is true, then level 3 would be quiet when the valve was closed and completely idiotic when open. Every report I have read from people with level 3's suggests this is not the case; many say it is almost unbearable day to day.

That being said, I think the level 1 is the best of both worlds. But you do need a functioning bypass. The OEM fails closed, the cappy aftermarket (which is what I have) fails open.

Its always good to here vids of 355s.

    I should re-name this thread

"How to make your sister howl"

Took my big sis out for her first ride in a Ferrari...naturally my weapon of choice was the F355. Got the car warmed up and hit some back roads. Get above 5,000 rpm and punch it...screaming sister "on demand". Hahahaha.

I don't think I've had this much fun since childhood. Lol...thank you, Ferrari.

I had to take 100 trip today with the wife. When I asked her what car to take she paused, knowing I wanted to take the 355 out in the sunny summer weather, and said "the one that won't give me a headache" :O/ Guess I will have to take her out for a spin tomorrow by myself before we go off to Hawaii on tuesday.

I guess I need to check what level Capristo I have as well. To me it is heavenly, but I guess it is a bit "loud" for some.

Its Joe at fabspeed Motorsports. Capristo and TUBI make great 355 rear mufflers and you guys all know this from personal experince. I wanted to share some knowledge about F1 sound and overall sound level for any Ferrari and or any other sports car for that matter.

The Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche cars exhaust systems are comprised of headers (with or without integral catalytic converters "pre-cats"), and typicaly there are 2ndary main catalytic converters and then a rear muffler or silencer. Therefore all these components describe the overall sportscar sound and power curve of that specifica vehicle.

On certain North America Ferraris like the F355 the car comes factory equiped with 4 catalytic converters while the later models like the F360 and F430 the cars come equiped from Ferrari spa with 6 total 700 cell catalytic converters installed.

Therefore changing out the rear muffler definetely makes a differnce in sportscar sound and some power.............BUT the real gains and magnificent F1 sound is changing out the restrictive and failure prone (causes engine damage ) factory headers and also possible the factory catalytic converters.

The Ferrari cars like any cars really wake up and breathe when headers are installed that eliminate the pre-cat and any super quality race quality header wakes up these Ferrari V8 engines. The 200 CPSI tri-metallic HJS Germany sports racing catalytic converters (CPSI=acronym for cells per square inch) really reduce the backpressure and allow the engine to breathe and as well and increase volumetric efficiency.

The cars we all love just want to run and breathe and what you are experincing are Happy Ferrari cars and great You Tube Videos!

One caveat- be carefull on the F355 cars when you consider permanently disabling or elimintaing the 355 2ndary vacuum actuated exhaust gas control valve (OEM exhaust engineering jargon).

Several years ago I CNC machine a billet 2ndary Valve bypass for the top vacuum valve as a prototype new part to resell for Fabspeed customers. This billet peice eliminated the top exhaust gas vlave that stays closed for added backpressure on the 355's dual outlet headers. Well the car sounded absolutely great but my "butt Dyno" said she felt lazy and low to mid-RPMS.............felt strong from high rpm to redd-line. Well before Fabspeed reales any & all products we DYNO test and verify power and torque as normal procedure in order to offer a best possible product. Put the car on the chassis DYNO and its lost a ton of torque and power in the mid-range. It was so depressing that I ripped the pice out and restore it back to the stock 2ndary valve. FYI- so unless you only need max RPM top end race track power that involves sweeping the tach from 5700 to 7000+ just make sure your vacuum lines and exhaust gas valve is working properly. Everything else is up to you.
